I have a 89 Cobra that has a H2+ and H1-.I'm curious to what p/u's you guys like the best in that guitar? The H2+ can be a little too big sounding through some amps.AC30 style amps for example.

Thanks,
Billy

H2/H02 might work if the H2+ is too big. Maybe even an H01+. That's probably the most versatile pickup I have installed in any of my guitars. Goes from Sparkly RnB clean to a very creditable hard rock sound (given a pedal to drive the amp a bit). I was shocked actually, because I've always been a super high output pick up guy.

That said, my next Cobra will have an H3 in it. If only I could get a Floyd in a Cobra...RAWK!!!

However, I'm sure that guy "tom" will know better than me.

the above comments are good. when i try to describe the difference with HO2 and HO1+, i say that if you want a little more saturation when you dig in harder, the 2 is better. if you want the attack to stay crisp the 1+is better.

I originally had an HO1-/HO1+ in the neck/bridge of my '07 Cobra. I ended up swapping 'em out for the H1-/H2+. The lower output pups definitely had more clarity and headroom, allowing for more body wood and amp tone. However the "hotter" TAG pups also have waaaay more clarity than a PRS HFS, Duncan JB or a Dimarizo AirNorton/Steve Special, which I've used and compared. With the H1-/H2+, I get punch and sizzle (saturation) without all of the coloration added by other mfrs.

We did a shoot out with a couple PRS', a CS Ibanez, EVH Charvel (the $25k one), a '59RI, a '60RI and my Cobra. Hi gain amps - Egnater Mod 100m EVH 5153 and Diezel Herbert. In every case, the crew agreed, if you want clarity and the ability to really "hear" yourself, the TAG pups win out everytime, with any amp. (that said, we also had a Kerry Wright 412 loaded with Celestion Alnico Golds - and when coupled with Anderson guitars, Diezel amps, the transparency and sensitivity is beyond compare - better be a clean picker!!!)

Thanks for the help guys.I lowered the H2+/H1- and I'm liking them a lot better.I'm still not getting the snap and sizzle in the full humbucker mode when playing rhythm ala Van Halen.I do however like the smoothness of them when soloing. My main amp is a Heritage Briton II through a 2x12 cab loaded with Blues.

Are you driving the amp with anything? When I don my VH hat, I use an AC booster into my amp. Instant win.
