Best Buy sells guitars and amps?

WHO KNEW?

They have American Standard, Fender and Marshall, including tube amps. M Audio, Edirol, etc.

I mean I won't be getting anything there, but can you imagine?

Makes Guitar Center look like a reasonable shopping experience ..........I was in one the other day and it have a gr8 pedal demo set up but I had to explain to the clerk why there are so many pedals to choose from ......

evidently Bogner's new Alchemist (the Chinese mfd amp) is being sold through BB. I don't know if having another outlet to p/u gear is such a bad thing. IMHO, they will not be competing with my fav dealers due to the severe gap in inventory, service and information. From what I can tell (so far) they aren't going GC....yet (defined as attempting to sell everything to everybody).

i heard from a friend at one of the big companies they sell, that the staff was a step above gc and that they did the setup for displays and understood the basic gear very nicely. they will probably do well in all the little stuff and that first guitar purchase for the guitar hero generation. i wonder if they'll let it turn into the noisy gc vibe?

I have played a couple of small acoustic shows at a best buy here in Nashville as part of their promotion of the new music gear area of the store. The staff guys who ran sound for the shows were absolutely clueless about the gear (and the mixing board as well, unfortunately). While we performed, several customers banged away on guitars and electronic drum kits in the room behind us. It was an interesting experience. On our way out after the shows, the sales staff made sure to tell us to come back if we needed to buy any gear. Interesting experience.

that was definitely not my experience down here in OC.
in fact, all that I've seen leads me to think BB (and it's customer base) represents nothing that the "real" retailers even need to be remotely worried about

best buy here in Nashville

in nashville a best buy salesperson can probably take anyone to town playing, and i don't mean guitar hero or rock band.

i didn't mean that real music stores had any reason to be afraid, just that my friends experience was better than gc. i was of course skeptical that they would be able to maintain that when they loaded up more and more stores. it may even be good for the great stores if someone who wasn't really seriously thinking about a real guitar, after playing guit hero, and impulsively buys a squire. if they do get serious they'll not be going to bb for the next guitar.

"I'll take the LG 42" flat screen, and I'll need two HDMI cables. Oh and while you are at let me have that red American Standard Strat and a Blues Junior. Think the manager will throw in a strap and some strings and picks?"

If their staff knows as much about guitars as they do about anything else that is sold in BB...well, lets just call it buyer beware.
