Applied contact cleaner spray a number of times..helps for a while..then fails again. Symptom: Turning the volume all the way off, and guitar still loud!

What type of pot do I need (TA Classic, VA12, VA12, VA23)?

Thanks!!
P.

500k audio taper is what we use. we use alpha.

Hi Tom,
Thanks!
Do I need to know about any other specs besides brand, max Kohms and the type of taper? Like, are there different shaft thicknesses and/or lengths or anything like that, and if so, which one fits my TA Classic?

Thanks Tom!

different brands of pots have different sounding audio tapers. i like the alphas best. cts are usually stiffer feeling if you like that. cts seem to have more end resistance so they sometimes do not turn all the way off. we use a 6mm solid shaft with a 3/8" long bushing. the small, 16mm alphas have a easier turning feel. the full size alphas have a smooth feel but are stiffer to turn.

Thanks Tom,
I'm going with the alphas as I have always liked the feel and sound of the pot in my TA classic. Like this: ?

Alpha 24MM
audio taper pot, 3/8" bushing

24MM audio taper, 1/4" smooth shaft for set screw knobs, solder lug with 3/8" bushing

shaft length: 0.33"
mounting hole: 0.375"

Thanks Tom!

the 1/4" shaft with require drilling out the hole in the knob. 6mm is a bit smaller.

got the new potentiometer, thanks!

In taking apart the old potentiometer I inadvertently pulled one of the capacitor legs out of the tiny little cap that goes across the volume pot. What value/type is it?

Thanks!

thanks Tom!
I assume you mean the little resistor across the two pot pins is 160k.

Just in case I break something else, what is the little resistor that connects to the case of the pot?

Thanks Tom!

Old old thread!

Are these the correct pots Tom? I need to replace a couple.

Thanks!
