Hi everyone...

It's Rach at TAG. Tom called and asked me to post on the forum that he is on vacation and out of the office. I guess he brought his laptop with him, but the connection was soooooo slow that it took him 15 minutes to answer one email. Anyway... he wishes you all well and said he would be back to work answering posts and emails next week.

Hiya, Rach! There's got to be a story behind your user ID: Ta2d Chevelle. One guess would be "Tom Anderson Two-door Chevelle," but then again maybe you're actually leaking the fact that TAGW is about to introduce a new instrument called the "Chevelle," a low cost, reduced performance guitar. You know, pine neck, poplar body and one pickup. No switches or knobs. And the Elmer Fudd Tuning System (EFTS).

I'd be all over that model! Pine Neck + Poplar Body + EFTS = Tonal Bliss!!! :D

In all seriousness, Pine Bodied Teles/Esquires Rock!

Please, Tom, when you return from vacation, please explain the Elmer Fudd Tuning System to me?

I've used the EFTS before and I think it's all marketing hype.

Well, the original method of hunting rabbits was based on the pythagorean theorum, but it didn't take into account such variables as the time of day you're hunting, length of shotgun barrel, and length of the rabbit's ears, so the EFTS is a mathematical system designed to take those factors into consideration. It's not just hype, it really works...as long as you're "vewwwy, vewwwy quiet!"

You left the part out about how the pellets from a bird shot round fired from shotgun purchased from a Kansas Wal Mart, if aligned exactly 3.122 meters from two pieces of synthetic bull seal tusks set perpendicular to each other on roating spindles, will produce both the nut and bridge for an acoustic guitar.

For those of you who live on the left coast, synthetic bull seals (BS) are native to central and western Pennsylvania. Their tusks make excellent nuts and saddles yet tend to be somewhat radioactive due to the animal's native habitat being proximal to Three Mile Island. Nuts and saddles made from these tusks do glow in the dark.

They are very wary animals and difficult to hunt. It takes years to perfect the mating call of the females, which is necessary to lure the bulls from their hiding places.

C.F. Martin occasionally offers BS nuts and saddles on their custom series guitars. I'm told that Chris Martin hunts these dangerous animals with bow and arrow.

Rumor is that Tom (our Supreme Commander) is, in fact, on a synthetic bull seal (BS) hunting expedition at this very moment, accompanied by none other than Buzz Feiten. Tom's frustration at being unable to find good quality koa and BRW has forced him to take desperate and extraordinary measures to keep TAGs at their very best.

I can't wait for him to get home and tell us all about his trip!

Meanwhile, we should expect an announcement from Buzz regarding their latest innovation: the BSTS.

Now THAT was a good one!

Man are we all bored or WHAT!

I'm rarely bored, but always looking to do things other than what I should.

One more observations about synthetic bull seals: they ARE a sustainable resource.

Wow... I have certainly been missing quite the education by not reading the forum on a regular basis! Holy c ... *ahem* moley! To protect the Supreme Commanders whereabouts, I cannot tell you where he vacationed. Frustrating, isn't it?

Well, have a wonderful weekend. I am off to go visit Mildred... my Chevelle.

BTW, hello everyone... it is certainly AMAZING to be back at TAG! Let me know if I can do anything for you... within reason.

<3, Rach

man! you guys get downright silly when the teachers back is turned.
glad to be back and had an incredible time in alaska. i gotta say that those salmon are the most determined creatures on the planet. they were running, and they're journey is nothing short of impossible, but some make it. i wanted to shoot the fisherman that were fishing right at the mouth of the river the salmon returned to. i wonder if the same guys hunt for tiger at the zoo?

I'd love to hear more about Alaska! I went two years ago. Here's the pics (http://photo.net/photodb/folder?folder_id=648132).

What part of Alaska did you go to Tom? I've been twice and it is one of the most beautiful and peaceful places on the planet.

we went inland passage, stopped at juneau, skagway, ketchacan and victoria. ketchacan was my favorite, but the whole place is amazing. they said it had been raining all summer, but we didn't see one drop. the glaciers are a wonder for sure, and the scale of the mountains and valleys makes yosemite look tiny. one of my sons went snorkeling in ketchacan and said it was amazing under the water as well.
definitely want to go back and spend more time off the ship. i got up this morning looking for the fresh fruit and all the food goodies. bet i gained 10 lbs.

Glaciers are an amazing thing to see . Ive done several USO tours and on one we went to Greenland , very near the north pole on one of our stops . I remember the glaciers were enormous and just amazing to look at .

Sounds almost exactly like my first trip from Seattle to Vancouver to Ketchikan to Victoria on the actual "Love Boat" (no, it was no where near as nice as the show made it out to be). It was such a great trip that my dad and I went back a couple of years later for some fishing:o in King Salmon, AK plus a trip to Katmai Nat'l Park. Along with New Zealand, Alaska is one of my favorite places.

I would definitely encourage you to go again and check out Katmai, Denali, and Kodiak Island as well.

my fishing comment was directed at the cruise people standing right where all the fish have to go to get up their stream to spawn. just didn't seem fair, like the old " shooting fish in a barrel" line. i imagine real fishing in ak would be great. definitely want to see more of ak.

ah, Tom. This is just more evidence that you have heart and soul. You're a good man, Charlie Brown.

I thought it was my big chance to start another thread about nylon stringed guitars with hex-pickups. but you're already back. Dang, missed my chance.

Yeah, they learned that trick from the bears.

You do want to see more of Alaska, especially if you didn't get to see Denali. Oh MAN what a mountain. Last day we were there, we could see the mountain from 200 miles away!

It was cloudy the day we drove to Denali, but not enough to hide that gorgeous big hunk o' rock. Here's a photo. (http://photo.net/photodb/photo?photo_id=5010488)

great pics! when were you there? some of the glacier shots looked familiar. was one the mendenhal? it has shrunk back 600 feet this past year.

Pietro

Most of my glacier shots (especially the up close ones) are of Exit Glacier, taken from just inches away in some cases. As you hike to the glacier they have signs showing you how far it has retreated. Amazing what has happened in the last 150 years, but then, 150 years ago our planet was in an unseasonably cold spell for a LONG time.

The cloudy day glacier photos are of Portage Glacier, from the boat you can ride on.

What a cool trip. If you like mountains, make your next trip the Grand Tetons. Simply the most beautiful piece of God's handiwork I've ever seen...

what time of year were you in ak?

Pietro
08-25-2008, 11:34 AM
September 2006, first two weeks. My wife and I often do those kinds of vacations right after the school year starts (which is right before stuff starts closing down.) Not as crowded, and the weather being cool doesn't scare us at all.

Your pictures are absolutely stunning! From what I understand, Alaska is a great place to visit... but not necessarily to live. My cousin lives there and works for the University of Alaska and BP doing field work of some kind. He lives in a cabin with no heat or running water... and an outhouse. Apparently this is kinda common. Can you imagine having to go to the outhouse in the middle of the night in the middle of winter? Eeek. Needless to say, Mark stayed but his girlfriend didn't. Go figure.:(

Aw shucks thanks! Alaska is beautiful enough that it just about photographs itself. And I imagine if you're in Alaska in Fairbanks or Juneau or Anchorage and you have indoor plumbing and heat it would be quite nice year round.
