Any thoughts?

Thinking of doing the following to my pedal board:

-Replace Fulltone Distortion Pro with Fulltone Red Full Drive 2
-Replace Boss CS 3 with Keely Compressor
-Replace Boss CE 5 Chorus with Fulltone Choral Flange

Any of you familiar with these or other alternatives, your thoughts would be greatly appreciated!

And If I should just leave well enough alone that would be fie too!

Note for reference: I use a Mesa Nomad 100 1x12 (You can't get these anymore) or a Mesa F 30.

THANKS!

In the end with pedals, seriously, if what you have does the job... then leave well enough alone.

But we guitarists are a fickle bunch, espeically with pedals. :D

I have gone from the Fulldrive II to the Tech 21 Double Drive to the Crowther Hotcake to the V-Stack and now to the Xotic AC-Booster. I dig them all. I have kept and still use the Double Drive, V-Stack and the AC-Booster. Different tones are like flavors in cooking; just use what tastes best.

For compressors, also throw the Demeter Opto-compulator (I think that is what it is called) in the mix for consideration. I have used one since September and LOVE that compressor pedal. The Keely is just as good or better, depending on your needs though. :D

The Choralflange I am a HUGE fan of; I have had one for over 2 years now. I LOVE that pedal; made me believe in using chorus again (I am a recovering 80's metal guy still).

Thanks Scott,

Just goling through my annual "How can I spend my Tax Refund and mess my sound up for six months till I get it right, then get bored with it all six months later and do it all again," phase!

Nice rig you got there. (I checked your website.)

BTW, could you tell me about the "loopster" thingy?

I've owned a bunch of the pedals you've listed. With respect to replacing the d pro with the fulldrive, it would depend on how you're using the d pro. Are you using it with your amp clean or are you using it with your amp dirty? The d pro is a dark distortion box while the fulldrive is a light overdrive that can be used as a boost with comp/cut switch on. Two completely different boxes. As far as the Keeley comp vs. the Boss-I used to own the Keeley but played the Boss once in a store, so I can't really say anything about it. The Keeley is good but expensive. I don't use comps much at all, that's why I dumped the Keeley. With respect to the Boss chorus vs. the Fulltone-again, I've never played the Boss. That being said, I think the fulltone is awesome. It's one of the best choruses I'v ever heard. The flange doesn't go nuts, it's more on the subtle side, but I really liked the chorus a lot because it's versatile-nice leslie sounds, smooth, lush chorus, subtle-doubling-it's all there. The only thing I couldn't get it to do well was the EH wet warble, a la Cobain, which the analogman chorus does extremely well. Well worth the money IMO, which I can't say much about other fulltone products.

You may also want to consider a Barber Tone Press compressor. It's cheaper than the Keeley and adds the ability to blend clean in with the compressed sound. I replaced my old MXR Dyna Comp with a Tone Press when they first came out. I have a friend with the Keeley and it's a nice compressor too. We did a side-by-side comparison between his Keeley and my Tone Press and found them to be very similar. The Keeley was maybe a bit thicker sounding while the Barber was maybe a little clearer.

I've had the Fulltone Choralflange and it was nice. In the end I replaced it with a Analog Man Chorus, which I prefer. I find it easier to dial in the tone I want with the Analog Man, even though it's not as versatile as the Fulltone.

Just got the Barber Tone Press! It is AWESOME! Thanks for the recommendation!
