hey folks,
What do you think about picking up a cobra special and then dropping in humbuckers to replace the soaps?

the uncovered atom style humbuckers will fit with only minor clean up inside the cavities.

does that mean m-style instead of h-style?
So what's the biggest sound I can get into a cobra special - would it be the M3? Or is there any chance the soapbars are comparable, in terms of getting a full rich sound? (not a twangy sound...)
Amazing to have a community like this.. thanks Mr. Anderson.
the full size atom style will fit. like H2A, H2+A, etc. the m's will fit with the supplied adapter rings.

thanks again. Anyone out there done this?
dave here at the shop stuck an HO1+ in his p90 equipped cobra. he loves the p90 sound, but the hum was just unbearable in some of the hollywood clubs. all he had to do was clean out the paint inside the p90 route, and it looks like it was made that way. we have seen several of the m replacements here as well. they use a black matte ring that goes around the m but sits inside the route below the surface of the top.

It is an awesome combination, nice idea but how much $ would you save? why not just buy a Special with HB's instead of retrofiting? cheers!

no sir! not this one.. this is my "does it all" guitar, but Tom could make one for you just like it. Specials with HB's are wonderful but not to common. You also get big fat SC tones with TAG switching. good luck!
