View Full Version : Power bridge users, what's your stage set up

I think I might have found a TAG with a power bridge set that I could buy. I have a question how to run them on stage to be able to switch from going into an amp to getting an acoustic sound, what do you use to make the switch?

Thanks
Jeff

I haven't used the powerbridge on my DTC in years, but when I did I used a stereo cable to a Fishman powerblend. The acoustic out went to the board and the electric out went to my pedalboard for the electric and into my amp. The powerblend basically controls the acoustic volume and my volume pedal on the pedalboard controlled my electric volume.

Go into an A/B/Y that has a stereo input. The A selects the tip and the B selects the ring. A goes to the electric side of my rig and B goes to a Fishman Loudbox amp. Loudbox has an XLR out that goes to the board.

I have all of my Andys setup with the Fishman Powerbridge and I would hate to have to go without.

I have a custom made stereo cable - basically two george l cables wired to a setero 1/4" plug. I found that most TRS cables I tried were too prone to picking up noise, radio stations, etc.

It goes into a breakout box I have on my pedal board which then feeds two seperate signals back to my rack. I use a Axess RX1 to select which signal is on and which is shorted to ground (off). I then run the acoustic signal through a few things mounted on a drawer - Boss AD5 with Demeter Compulator & Boss DD3 in the loop. I then have a ground lifted XLR out jack mounted on the back of the rack.

I am entering year 5 or so of only using "stereo" guitars this way. My Crowdster Plus (obviously), my PRS, my US Masters, and my Godin Flat Five X are all two-voice guitars.

I take the stereo output into an electric rig for the electric side (my ToneLab right now, sometimes an amp with a mic on it) and the acoustic side through an acoustic preamp (a Yamaha AG Stomp - used pretty subtly - I love it, not everyone does) and then... here's the key... I run my electric rig (or mic from the amp) to a small mixer on stage. I monitor everything through an acoustic amp (basically a small PA so I get the volumes right (I use both at the same time a lot) and make critical tone adjustments listening to the PA (who cares what it sounds like to me, I want to know what it sounds like to the audience).

Both electric and acoustic have a volume pedal somewhere in line, so I can adjust volume of either from the pedals, volume control on the guitar, or switch on the guitar.

I don't use NEARLY the high-end gear most guys (and gals) on this forum do, but I get complements on my tone from people all the time.

If you send your acoustic and electric side to the board each as its own signal, and you use them at the same time, better pray your sound guy gets the mix the way you want it. In my experience, they don't.

thanks for the information. I am going to go play the guitar today to see if I like it, I am sure I will because I have never picked up a TAG that I did not like......yet ;)

I have a Monster Y-cable.... electric side running to my pedal board and the acoustic side into a Fender Acoustasonic Jr.

Both feeds go through a Stereo Ernie Ball volume pedal to allow me to manage volume control to both.

I fine tune the mix with the controls on the guitar.

I've always just gone through the Powerblend pedal. One signal to a Genz Benz acoustic amp, the other to my Bassman. I also run a direct send of the "acoustic" sound to the board, while sticking a mic in front of the Bassman.

I know, I'm relying on the sound man to get the mix out front. To be honest---I don't think he entirely "gets" the whole electric/acoustic thing. But it sure sounds nice to me on stage. I've got a peizo bridge on all my guitars.

Does anyone make a A/B box that has a stereo in and two mono outs?

if you do search for an a/b/y box you could probably find them. just make sure the input is trs. ryan from pacific custom pedals built a few for me, but i'm not sure if he is still in business.

Mine was built by Loooper, but he can't make pedals anymore due to CTS.

See if this guy can add a stereo jack to the input. That's all mine is.
