Hi guys,
I am looking for a diagram to re-wire my HSS Fender American Deluxe Strat.
I want the single coils to sound right(250k), and the humbucker to sound right(500k). I'm going to be trying a couple different Anderson and Duncan hb's for it. After some searching, vintage voicing seams like what I need.
Here's the switching I want;
1-Neck
2-Neck & Middle
3-Middle
4-Bridge Full HB & Middle (Split HB & Middle with Push/Pull)
5-Bridge HB (Split HB with Push/Pull)
I want the single coils to see 250k, and the HB to see 500k. The volume will be a push/pull to split the HB. I don't really have a preference for the tone controls,...so I guess one tone control for the neck and one for the bridge(middle & bridge). Whatever's easier. The single coils are Fender Samarium Cobalt Noiseless,...At least for now :)
I bought the 500k pots, 500k push/pull pot, and 2-pole 5-way(I can also use the 4-pole 5-way that came with the guitar). I'm assuming I also need a couple resistors(470k?). Anyone have a diagram for me to follow? That's probably the only way I could understand it. I could also post a Duncan diagram, and modify it if that helps.
Thanks guys
Roy could set you up, if he is back in office yet.
It's just a 500k resistor is passed into the volume pot when the switch activates the single coils. A 500k resistor along with a 500k volume pot creates a 250k pot. Wiring a 500k resistor in parallel with the 500k pot to the ground for 250k load.
Does that help any? As far as positions 4 & 5 that you want,....?? There are others that can better answer that one.

Here is the wiring diagram Roy sent me for my Strat that I upgraded to TAG pups. The singles are SF1R and SF1...the Humbucker is H2. In a second version of this wiring the green and white wires from the singles are taped off...it's the preferred setup per Roy and Tom. Hope this helps!
it's a 330k resister, to our ears it did the best job of matching 2 250k pots tone.

Thanks, Tom. 330k it is then :)
Do you have a diagram laying around for something similar to what I want? Or is the one that ConnemaraGuitar posted good for this?
Thanks!

Thank you, Tom and ConnemaraGuitar. I appreciate the help.
I just have some stupid questions. Ya see, I am only good at wiring guitars, if I have a diagram like Duncan uses for me to follow :D So I'm trying my best to understand this.
1.) What is that thing up top with the green and white wires going to the switch? Green is going to the position 4 & 5 Lugs, and White is going to position 1 & 2 Lugs. I don't understand this.
2.) What is that other thing at the bottom? The rectangle next to where "SSH" is written.
I'm also trying to figure out how to wire the tone controls.
Sorry for the stupid questions guys.

You are really making my day! I struggled with the exact same questions but was too timid to ask. So here's what I did: The Supreme Commander indicated that they could sell me a harness; pots, switches and all. At a reasonable price, no less (certainly less than the costs of previous attempts to solve problems without adult supervision).
Harness in hand, the diagram makes sense. All you need to know then is that the pups' green and white wires attach where noted (NMB= neck, middle, bridge), as do the red wires. The black and bare wires are soldered to the case of the volume pot. The hot wire goes from the center lug on the volume pot to the jack, as does a ground wire from the case of the volume pot. Pay attention to hot versus ground when wiring the jack. It makes a difference...(don't ask, please!)
Also, be sure to ground your bridge, and if you've added it (a good idea to minimize hum), the copper shielding inside the cavity and on the back of the pickguard.
Let me know if you have more questions...my email is loftonharris@verizon.net. Cheers,
Lofton
Can I resurrect this briefly ?
Does the Anderson scheme use 2x500k pots or is the tone a 250k ?
What I really want to know is, does the H2+ sound best with a 250 or a 500k tone pot ?
we always use two 500k pots. vintage voicing accounts for both being 500k.
I fancy putting a H2+ in my Strat.
Would it work with a 250k volume and a 500k tone pot ?

It's better with a 500k volume pot unless you don't mind reduced highs.
