From what I understand they are new pickups designed more for vintage tone.

We expect pics and a full tone report! ;)

What I would like to know most is if the CT has that big chunk tone like a great LP. Hope you can compare them for us. :D

I didn't know they were going to have covered PUs  , Those look fantastic, I gotta have one (at least) now!

That gold top just made me weak! I was going to go with a blue one but now I don't know, I have always had a soft spot for gold tops.

I saw the new Larrivee electric guitars. The body design they came up with resembles a CT Atom.

How about the new electrics from Breedlove?
Does this neck joint look familiar?

breedlove asked if we wanted to license it to them, but i thought people might make more of a connection than there is between us. they are good friends but we're not connected in a business way.

Where do I begin??? I am FINISHED in the hunt. This is over the top.The GROWL far exceeded my expectations.I've had R7's,R8's,R9's and a '68 reissue.THe versatility and attention to detail makes all others unworthy. This has completed my collection. The HFA pickups truely capture a vintage PAF tone.WOW.WOW.WOW.You will not be disappointed. Thanks to Tom,Roy,Rachael and Jack for making this happen. The commitment to excellence shines through. What a work of art. Thanks again.

HF's are the newest version of our alnico humbucker. we worked with tim pierce to dial it in. there is a "vintage " version, the hf1+ and there is a little hotter, a little smoother creamier hf2. the hf1 is in the neck position. it is the same pickup that is under a cover and called an HC(c for cover, pretty clever huh?). anyway although they are wound the same, they do sound a bit different. the HF's have a little more open high end while the HC's have a bit more of a one dimensional sound like a les paul. to some one dimensional may sound like a negative term, but it is part of what makes a les paul a les paul. these still have more of the lively stuff you have come to expect from us.

Growl is good! Does it have that LP chunk?

schofnsteen

Very close.I have a Les Paul Classic with the ceramic pickups which is very in your face. The pickups in the CT Atom are not as aggressive. What I can remember about the Tim Buckers in my R9 were very close. Not having them side by side it is hard to tell. The playability and attention to detail offset anything else in my book.If these catch on many will have a hard time experiencing Tom and Co.'s MAGIC!!

How does it compare to a "regular" Atom (not that there's anything regular about any Atom, but you know what I mean...)?

Haven't been blessed to play a regular Atom.:(

tom

without going into too much tonal jargon, the ct goes farther towards the lp camp than the regular atom. it's chunkier and more focused. feel wise it also goes farther with more neck angle and the thicker body but imho is way more comfy than a lp.

Oh, jeez.....Now I gotta do some thinking. So, is there a Bigsby option on the CT?

tom
07-01-2008, 07:04 PM
not sure what to do about the bigsby. i have one for me, but i had to severely mod the bigsby to make it fit nice. it also won't go in the case so that' a major problem. i use a gig bag so it's not an issue for me.

Do you find the CT a lot friendlier on your right forearm? No typical LP crease develops as you play?

Pure badass hotness...

... or is that pure hot badassery? Oh heck, either way, you get the point :D

tom
07-02-2008, 12:39 PM
i don't want to tease with something that at this point doesn't look like it will happen(but it sure is a cool guitar). getting a case made is very unlikely as we already are pushing the limits of how low a quantity they will make a custom case for.

Janine Doubly
07-02-2008, 01:45 PM
Would you be up for sending specs to Calton (paid for by me, of course) and then once a case was made, having a CT with a Bigsby made?

akivisuals
07-02-2008, 02:20 PM
Or.... would you be open to selling them without a hardcase? I use gig bags as well....

those are both possible options.

Oh, boy...I am VERY interested. I remember seeing a plain top with an M in the neck on NAMM/GOTW. How would the new CT Hf's work with an M1/M1 three pickup combo?

Tom, did you modify a trapeze style Bigsby or a flat top style like on the Atom?

tom
07-02-2008, 05:18 PM
don't have imediate plans for a 3 pu, but that could happen without too much trouble. i modified the flat mount bigsby. the trapeze is just a bit too long.

Dave K

Okay Tom, I have one more question. Sorry. ;)
Are the pickup cavities slightly larger on the CT in order to allow the covered buckers to fit? Or did you shrink the pickups and covers down in size?
Or is it all a magical mystery? :D

tom
07-04-2008, 11:29 AM
the cavities are wider to fit the cover.
