This fine English mag says this LP would be a great future investment.
$4400 from Muso's Friend.
That would more than buy a really fine TAG, wouldn't it?
My vote would be Tag yes, LP no.
Let's here what you think!

I've owned high end LPs, SGs, and PRSs. None of them even come close to my Cobra S or Hollow Cobra in quality or tone. I've always experienced intonation problems with the LPs and SGs and the TAGs solved that problem. My TAGs also provide a lot more tonal options. The H3 on my Cobra S will crush any LP. pietro can testify to that... :)
TAGs rule :D

As much as I absolutely love my main LP for its mojo and tone, there are still a few "duck" notes on there due to intonation. I want to try the Buzz Feiten setup on there, but only know one person in Nashville that I would trust to perform the work on this particular guitar!

If I'm gonna get a Les Paul, I'd rather have a Cobra or an Atom (or a PRS for that matter) than any Gibson currently made. But Gibsons do seem to hold their value well. I just don't buy guitars as investments. I PLAY them!
full disclosure by the way... jimfitz above plays with me in my church... and is a super-cool guy and great guitar player, too! So if we ever agree on something, it's probably 'cause we already discussed it.
See ya tonight, Jim!

As a "Yoot" I owned a 70's Cherry Red Sunburst Les Paul Custom that my friend sold me for $350. and while it was an excellent Guitar it didn't come close to my Andy Fireburst w/ Binding Cobra Special S. It didn't sound or feel or was as versatile or even look as well IMHO. If all Andersons are this fine then they're in a higher class than most of the Guitars I've played/owned. You can probably say I am a Proud Owner..... J ;)

For pure investment purposes, I would take the slash over any tag. I can't remember how many custom shop slashes Gibson is making, but it's very limited, so if I were to buy an instrument just to hold and sell later for a profit, I would buy the slash. As for tone, well that's subjective-I've owned a cobra, a couple of cobra s's and one atom, and they don't sound like a les paul-to me comparing them tonewise is like comparing apples and oranges. As for playability, although Gibson does a better job than its "internet" reputation, I would agree though, I would take a TAG because no other guitar comes close in terms of consistency, set-up, built, etc., etc.
I think the Slash's are pretty cool. I love my 68 Custom RI. As far as comparing a Paul to a TA, its apples and oranges. The quality fit and finish is superior on my TAs. The tone on my Andersons is great, but I would never say it "crushes" my Pauls. Its different, which is what I imagined Tom was going for. I have actually found that for balls out rock, nothing comes close to a good Paul for big fat tone. Variety is good.

I have a really nice Les Paul that is as important to my collection as my Andersons. Having said that...I have more than one Anderson and have my eyes on another order. I can't say that I am looking at getting another Gibson.

One thing not to forget about is How many Les Pauls do you have to play before you find a " Good One " meaning one that plays and feels good and also has a great tone. My personal experience has been lots and then you have to really move up into a custom shop one to find one that is " Great "
I have yet to play a TAG that isn't GREAT and that doesnt play like butter. And dollar for dollar I would take an Atom or a CT Atom over any Les Paul that is not made in The Gibson Custom Shop not just any Les Paul Custom you can find at most dealers But a Real Custom Shop Les Paul.
Just my 2 cents

My Les Paul is a standard production model. It is an amazing guitar and stands up to the Custom Shop stuff that I have played. I slapped in a pickup that I made in the neck and a Duncan Bug-Sey Bucker in the bridge. Not a single person that has used the guitar has failed to say "whoa, this thing is amazing!" I had the Buzz Feiten system installed on it (I wont own a guitar without BF) and I have, in my opinion, one of the best Les Pauls anywhere/ever.
Les Pauls are a weird guitar and they TRULY all feel and sound different...but when you find a great one you really need to buy it.

The thing about the gibson custom shop guitars though is that they are so much more consistent compared to the regular production models. The regular production guitars are so inconsistent in terms of tone and especially set-up, it's embarassing. One thing I like about TAG, is that the guitars are so consistent-just pull them out of their case, and voila, no need to tweak, fuss with the action, adjust pickup, etc., etc. Mister T's comments on LPs is on the dot though-no les paul sounds like another-I have a few and even though my wife thinks otherwise, they all sound different.

Mister T you have proven my point. You made several modifications to a Les Paul new pick ups and new tuning specs to make it a WHOA guitar which I am sure it is but it did not come out of the case that way fresh from the gibson factory you made it that way with your mods. Which just goes to show why we all like TAG because they all come out of the case fresh from the factory and we all say WOOHOO:D

The Burstbuckers that came in the Les Paul were fine. I changed them because I am a tweaker. I have also replaced the neck and middle pickups on my fav Anderson Classic with Suhr Fletcher-Landau pickups.
Every guitar needs BF, thats not really a quality thing...it is what I have gotten used to using.
