I think I've come to the conclusion that I am simply a tele guy. Any body else in this same boat as me?
Les Paul is cool, but limited. And I tried to use my DTC (HSH) this past week, and it just seemed awkward for me. The pickups sounded really dark, and I just couldn't get the sound I was going for in a particular song. Every time I throw the Hollow T Classic on, I can get nearly every sound I would want... from snappy chicken pickin' to nice saturated rock sounds.
I'm almost thinking about having my DTC reconfigured to HSS or three singles... more of a true strat. Any of you guys had this experience? It's an H1-, SA1, H2+. The SA1 has a much lower volume than the other two, and all three pickups don't seem to compliment each other. It seems to be a very "dark" or "muddy" sound.
Tried SF (or is it SC?) equipped Olympic White classic at NAMM. Was floored, something to check out if you want a more traditional Strat sound without the hum. Had a DTC with SA's and an H2+ and regret not having long enough to put M's in it. Consider M's for your DTC. I have them in my HTC and don't find them muddy.

I think I just need to spend some more time with this guitar... got it out this aft. It doesn't sound bad. I just have to approach it differently than my HTC. It's a whole diff animal...
make sure it's not just the body shape that you love about the htc. it took me years to figure out that i'm just not comfortable with a strat shaped guitar. i've said it before, but strats hang so you left arm is right up against your body. teles and les pauls hang away from your body giving your left elbow lots of room. for me this was a huge revelation and solved the "why don't i like strats" dilemma.
that said, i think many of us are just more comfortable with a particular style of pickup also.
I am all about the Classic 'T'. I absolutely hated tele guitars for the longest time and then in 2003 I got my first Classic T and it has been my favorite ever since. I enjoy the fun and tones from Classics with VA's but, for 5 years the 'T' is just the sweetest guitar for me. It's what works for me. Simple, elegant and tone from sweet to the growl.

+1. My 03-23-08P solid T is my first Tele after 30 years of playing, and I gotta admit its all I've played since I got it. Really sweet sound and feel all the way around.
This is what it's all about for me:

I'm in the Tele camp too, in fact my E bay ID is..... Telefan2 :D
I tried and wanted to like "s" style guitars. I've seen so many good players use one, Clapton, one of my favourites the obvious one, hendrix, knopler, SRV, these guys without doubt the top of the game, but a tele, its just SO right.
I will NEVER change my opinion of this wonderful and straightforward guitar, and believe me i have had them ALL ( 49 guitars in 5 years) and STILL the Anderson tele is the one to beat... as long as its 2 pickups and single coil? I think i'm right and saying Tom agrees, if it has 3 pickups, its not a Tele.?
Guys if you want 3 pickups... buy a strat and if you want humbuckers by a Cobra/Atom/Les Paul !!! they just dont belong on a Tele, HONEST !:)

I guess after thinking about everything... maybe every person just falls for a certain type of guitar. It's like, "your type". So if I HAD to have just one, it would be an HTC. BUT, at the same time, I think the strats, les pauls, and everything in between all have their place, and I'm glad I don't have to have just one guitar.
I've been noodling around on my Drop Top Classic all afternoon and night, and man, I can't put it down. I may bring it out on the road this weekend and tweak my rig for it.
Tom, I think you are right as to how the guitar feels when it's on. There are so many factors that going into how a guitar feels and sounds.
