Hey guys -

I just bought another one - a (gasp!) fender '57 reissue. That brings my total to 15. My wife thinks I'm addicted and is ready to do an intervention!

I tell her until she plays, she won't understand.

So I was looking at the harem shot and was thinking - no, I'm not completely off!

Just curious - how many do you have in your stable?

Here's my list:

Chandler Lectraslide (very cool!)
Strat ultra
Strat plus
Modified standard strat
Strat '57 reissue
Ibanez lonestar acoustic electric
Martin D-16A (i think)
Stromberg Montreax
Heritage les paul
G&L ASAT Custom
60's Tele reissue with bigsby (signed by Susan Tedeschi!)

My Rig...

TA HDTC, H-S-S, Flamed Maple on Alder, all Maple Board, hardtail Fishman Powerbridge.
Baker B-1, 2 Hum, Quilted Maple on Mahog body/neck, rosewood board, TonePros Bridge
Carvin Bolt T, H-S-S, Quilted Maple on Alder, Birdseye Maple Board, Wilkinson Trem

Taylor 314CE
Taylor 414CE-L3 (essentially a 514CE with Dove inlays)
Yamaha Acoustic (don't know model no, F-something) - this is like 25 years old and has aged amazingly - very sweet tone

Carvin 100W 212 Tube
Ampeg 112 Tube
Fender Acoustasonic 112
Pedal Board

Tascam US-428
Cubase SX 2.0
Boss DR-770
TC Electronic M300

Just the basic tools of the trade for me. I can't justify much more than that, just feel that I can stick to what I really need and money for other things can go to those who need it. That's NOT to say that I don't have bad GAS, or understand those who do! I've actually pared down my rig quite a bit over the last couple of years to a place where I have the professional tools I need - no more. I must say, though, that another Andy and maybe someday an Olson SJ would be great!

My wife actually took interest in playing guitar several months before we got married. So I went to Dan's Guitars and asked Dan what was a decent but not expensive acoustic guitar. I ended up with the basic low end Larrivee, which is incidentally a great guitar for the price especially after Dan tweaked the neck of that guitar big time. Anyway, to make a long story short, she never got into it. I went so far as to make her take lessons at Dan's shop-she lasted about 2 months! Eventually she said I could have the guitar back which DOES make a difference since according to my wife, what's mine is hers and what's hers is hers:D!

I have a hard time keeping more than one or two guitars around! I feel that one always gets played more than the others and the rest get neglected especially if they're both the same type of guitar! and for some stupid reason that bothers me!!!

So for my main gigging guitar the one that seems to do it all for my style of playing would be:

Tom Anderson Hollow Drop Top!

The ones that are getting neglected but do come out every now and then!

Tom Anderson Cobra
Gibson LP 58 RI

That's all I got!
Sorry!!!!!

the olson's are forever. having said that, i play one all the time, and it shows many signs of wear and tear. the other is mint. i have contemplated selling the mint one, but what would i buy to replace it? another olson? i got these through a trade with jim, and they are way out of my price range now.

Casper

I'm with John, I have never owned more than 2 electrics and one acoustic. That being said, I've been playing Tom's guitars since 1992, I have searched for over 15 years for my perfect Anderson. I have owned 4 Droptops, 2 classics and have traveled out of state and out of my town on many occasions to play various dealer stock. I finally found my favorite in 1999, ...my 96 transblonde classic with the 62 rb neck. I traded a droptop for it. I actually like it more than my new droptop I bought last year. It has been on over 500 shows and half way around the world with me and has become part of me.
Out of the many I've owned, I only regret selling my first, a rare Namm piece, the rest are just me being picky.
I still want to find another Anderson that will mean as much but serve a different purpose.
Having a guitar to switch to onstage is practical and breaks up the monotony, I have been able to achieve most sounds I want between 3 guitars...and some processing.;)

OK…since we have decided “bigger isn’t better” I’ll share my humble collection as well.

01 Drop Top
74 Strat w/Fralins
80’s Yamaha SA2100(ES335 copy)

D 3 (I think) Larrivee
70’s Yamaha F-something

Early 70’s Princeton Reverb (w/NOS tubes)

Reissue Vox Wah
Keeley TS9
Boss CH1
Older Ibanez digital Delay
Boss TU2 tuner

I’ve had quite a few that I wish now I would have never parted with…but my finances usually dictate that one has to go to get a new one. The Anderson is DEFINITELY my number one right now. Sold a PRS Cust24 to get it. I am considering sending it in to get the stainless re-fret. We’ll see…..

Tombo, I totally agree-the little Korg PX-4 is one of the most useful practice tools around. I keep the PX-4 in my office and plug in CDs to jam with or try to jam over recorded riffs all the time. I also regulary use the Digitech RPX-400 at home which is another handy tool. I don't care for digital stuff at all, but I don't buy them for tone-I buy them for their practicality. I have definitely used the PX-4 and RPX-400 and Tascam CD-GT1 more than any other amp I've owned over the last year. I wish I had these toys when I first started playing guitar. Oh yeah, before I forget, the Fender Super Champ was my first amp too! Bought it in 1984 then sold it three years later after I quit playing guitar. Awesome amp-I can't believe I sold it for a 100 bucks when it's worth a nice sum today.

in this case, size totally matters!!:D

my axe aresenal gets a total workout - NO guitar sits in the case. each one has a unique tone, and is an experience to play.

I'd argue that the more the better. All different, all the time, all good!!:p

I'd say bigger can be better, depending on who's using it, and for what. But bigger is not necessarily better. Just depends on the needs of the user and what they're doing.

Hey as I always say, "No worries, it's aaaall good!" (especially when it comes to Andys). I just wanted to speak out for those of us who are shamelessly uninhibited about discussing our axes (all of them!). Like I said, mine get played. as my wife would say... too many ;)

Guitars:
----------------------------------
5 andys (2 HDT, 1 HDTC, 1 DTC, 1 Alder Classic)
parker fly deluxe
old jackson soloist
old charvel (san dimas)
a few kramers
yamaha ty tabor model
84 fender strat
alvarez acoustic
Yamaha classical
music man stingray 5 bass...

probably missed a few somewhere.. sold off a bunch once the anderson bug hit me, as i just dont play them. Anything left are just sentimental attachments mostly, besides the parker which i love.

Amp:
-----------------------------------
Line6 vetta HD (upgraded to II specs)
and the big honking foot controller for it..
2 older Mesa/Boogie half back 4x12's
a cord

sold off the big rack of goodies, as my back was killing me.

next thing is probably a nice acoustic, taylor or breelove or something like that.

Dave, I just checked your site. You must be proud. Amazing collection! I love the Bora Rosewood piece!
I miss having a Floyd, but I don't get to dive much in this band I'm in. Sorry you aren't fond of your 62 rb neck on your classic. I love mine!
Congratulations, my wife would leave me if I bought that many axes.

thanks... well i played it at practice the other night the whole time, and i think it's just something i have to get used to. I'm really use to the thinner profiles... but change is good.

yes i love the bora one.. it was the first guitar i ever ordered, and it turned out amazing, i chuckle everytime i play it.

some people hate floyds, but i love them.

I just wanted to update my gear list as I picked up two amps over the last two weeks-a new Engl Savage and a used Boogie Mark IV. I haven't had the most time on either amp, but what I can say is that the jury is still out on the Savage, but the Mark IV just amazes me. I've never been that big of a Mesa amps and had played a Mark IV combo before without having had that great of an impression. The head I bought however has really impressed me so far although I don't particularly like the loop. It cost me half of what I paid for the Savage and I think the Mark IV completely blows it away. Great amp. Anyway, still waiting for the Suhr to come!

Just trying to avoid confusion, as Savage Amplifiers http://www.savageamps.com make some of the FINEST amps on the planet. My Macht 12 is being built at this moment. Can't wait to receive it. Test report to come after I get it!

Yep, different amps. I shouldn't say I don't like the Engl Savage-I still have to fool around with it a lot more since there are tons of knobs and options on that amp. With the Mark IV and Bogner Uberschall though, I'm not sure how much playing time it'll get!

My family has been seriously trimmed down over the past few years...well...more 'refined' than trimmed down.

I currently have 6 electrics, a bass, and an acoustic:

'99 PRS Private Stock 98 triple soapbars
'81 Les Paul Artisan
'98 Brian Moore Custom C90P
Two Fender Strats...with tons of parts changes :D
'81 G&L L1000 bass
'78 Ovation acoustic (can't remember the model...and I'm sure it doesn't matter)

...and my newest gem... the TA George Harrison tribute (Aug 23, 2003 Guitar of the week). What a monster guitar - I can't put it down!!!!
