hey guys, haven't been around lately but I had to pass this along if you hadn't seen it...
what will they think of next...?!

Will there be any musicians left playing true linear lines in the studio?
it did get me thinking about someone with little playing skills but lots of time and a good ear making decent records.

ProTools already lets people with little talent make good recordings.
This tool will allow producers/musicians to rearrange things and make chords that are impossible to play on a real guitar.
I just watched the video, didn't read too much about the product, but I'd imagine it'll allow a producer/musician to change the pitch of notes so that a single lead riff can go from bass guitar to piccolo guitar in one measure or even one beat.
I'm not a big fan of this kind of stuff. Hate to be so negative.
I'm sure someone is using this already and making great recordings with it and it's the next big thing for electronic music.

The problem is that it is only good for recorded music. Nothing beats watching live music where the band is feeling and exuding the emotion of what they're playing. And this kind of technology doesn't let that happen.
IMO, I'd rather listen to music with 'real' musicians, and watch movies with 'real' actors. Even better if I can go and see these things live.

You guys have nailed my sentiments exactly. I worry that we will start to breed new players who don't feel they need to hone their craft at all, they can just fix it with these programs. I feel like a lot of music has already gone down this road to some extent, and when it's brought to the stage, you can usually spot the computer controled pitch correction and click tracks. Imagine how weird a live solo would sound like that!!!!!!

I'm totally for musicians making the music, but then I have to say I really dug all the cool things the late, great, Frank Zappa did with his Synclavier. He did rhythms and tonal progressions that were unheard of before. Just my 3¢.
I watched the video and was amazed and how it can breakout all the notes of a guitar chord and let you move each note around. Did you check out the demos on one of the other pages? They have a trumpet track that they manipulate, that is mind-blowing.
