View Full Version : Is anyone using a Cobra to cover Les Paul ground?

I'm a cover player, and I'd like to find something to cover Les Paul territory.

I'm more than a little smitten by some Cobras I've seen lately, but having never heard one, could I use one in place of a Les Paul or even an SG? I know one answer would be to find an LP, but comparing my Hollow Classic to the last LP I had (mid-80s), it's a no brainer for me that I'd prefer another Anderson.

Obviously, pickup configuration would be key. I'm looking for something to cover my late 60's / 70's repertoire (Cream, Queen, Aerosmith, etc). Would I be better off with the HO1 series pickups? Or is there a better suggestion?

Thanks,

George

Probably the new CT Atom would be what you are looking for.

I have a Cobra with a h2+ in the bridge... A / B'd with a Paul and there was hardly a difference. The Paul was just a bit fatter but in my opinion if you were not listening for that you really could not tell a difference.

I'm sure the Atom takes care of the fatter tone.

(my two cents anyway). Plus the neck position on the cobra is great too...

In my experience, a std. Cobra can handle LP tones and bring some of its own stuff to the table. If you are smitten by your Hollow Classic and like its playing position on your body, a Cobra with Ho pickups would feel similar to your other guitar and I think, will give you the tones you need to cover that late 60's stuff nicely. The only feel issue you might have is the shorter scale length. If you don't mind a little playing position change, the Atom or Atom CT would also be worthy of consideration and would get you closer to classic LP tonal territory.

Closest I ever got to my R0s was a Drop Top T with H2+/H1. Cobras and Atoms get you close too. Atoms with H0 series is a good place to start.

I had a different experience in A/B tests than chadmj.
