Hey guys. I am looking to put together an order for a Hollow Atom with a Bigsby and I have some pickup choice questions I'd like to throw out at you guys. I want to do three M's and I'm thinking M1, M1, M3. Some of the sounds I am hoping to capture are: a hot bridge bucker sound, a Gretschy neck/bridge twangy sound, somewhere a quasi Strat quack sound, a middle by itself sound and maybe even a Teleish bridge twang, if possible. Is this doable and would a kickback circuit be a wise addition? Just so you know the guitar's purpose and where I am coming from...I currently use a Grosh Retro Classic w/fralins (VH,VH, SP43) and an Epiphone Elitist Riviera (w/mini hums and a Bigsby) so I like single coil sounds and mini bucker sounds with clarity. Not necessarily bright, just top end detail. I want one guitar I can travel with that stays mostly humcancelling and can cover a lot of the ground these two guitars cover while being its own beast. Am I on the right track? Any suggestions?

i'd ne inclined to do m1,m1 m2 or ho1+. the atoms come standard with kickback so i think you can do all that are looking for that way.

Awesome! Tom, thank you for the suggestions. I hadn't thought of a full sized bucker in the bridge. In my mind, I tend to default to mini's a lot. I had forgotten how much I liked the Ho, and I bet it will do a nice single coil when split for a Tele style twang and mix well with the M1 in the neck. Now...what color?...hum, decisions, decisions...silver sparkle, perhaps? Do you think Billy Zoom would ever play and Anderson?:D

What is the kickback system? Sorry if this is a dumb question,

It's where you get some extra 'personal cash' in a brown paper bag for closing a deal. Governments like to be on the receiving end of this ...oh wait... ;)

It's a passive circuit that Tom is using to cut the mid frequencies. When it is engaged it makes a humbucker sound more like a single coil. The idea is to let you have a single coil sound without the hum, while still having full humbucker tones available. It's the opposite of the booster circuit that fattens up a single coil by enhancing the mids. No battery or external power is used for either circuit.

I have a kickback system in my Cobra S and set my amp up to where I have the rhythm sound I want with the kickback on, then when I want the lead sound all I have to do is turn off the kickback and that acts like a little overdrive to hit the amp harder. It works great IMHO and unless I was ordering straight single coils with a booster, I would order all humbuckers, preferably a mini in the neck and full in the bridge, with a kickback installed.

Can this be retro-fitted into an existing guitar? Man, this would be great for my droptop!!!

Mine was. Tom used the existing coil split mini toggle as the switch. Best upgrade money spend. You will need to ask Tom if yours can.
