Mesa Lonestar Special

I owned one a couple of years ago and only kept a short time. I switched to a Lonestar Classic , but knew an LSS would return someday to my music room. Anderson's booth had a Special for demoing their guitars the last two years. Saliva glands kicked into action.
Minty new LSS shows up for sale on TGP and it's local to me. Done Deal. I have it back in the house and my TA's sound very happy. They like the amp, I like the amp. The TA single coilers I have sound beautiful. What a match.

What's the difference between the Classic and the Special?

I have a Boogie DC-3 here that I just love!

The clasic is the 6l6 or el34 model, 100 wats, the special is the el84 model, around 30 or so wats.
Does this one have the new duo class option, the 5 wat setting? If so, how do you like it? I liked the special a lot, I've toyed with the idea of getting one sometime. How would you rate the clean channel, can it stay pretty clean at higher levels? I had the clasic, and I kind of worry that the special may not have enough clean power for me,

My Special has the 30/15/5 watt settings. I had one of these amps a few years ago and took it back to GC for a Classic. The Special didn't have enough clean headroom for the bands I played with then. Still it was a sweet, sweet amp. I'm going to rehearse with it tonight. The lack of headroom concerns me, but the band is not as loud as my previous band.
The Classic has tons of clean, like Twin Reverb clean. Nice drive channel too. 100/50 watt settings on the older models. The newer models can also run at 10 watts. If you are in need of clean and don't mic your amp, go with the Classic.

Yeh, I had that 100 watter, sounded huge, the only problem I had with it was it always seemed to have a bit of a boxy quality in the mids that I couldn't dial out. I miss having that power though, for big venus with crappy P.A's,
