Sending this from the hotel room of one of the out of town guests (from the right coast...)

I just sent over 50MB's of pix over to Mr. Brian Harris, who will be posting lots of pix over at the AndersonAlley (from the Anderson booth today). I got there at 9:30am, and saw the gang (and Bud aka (glen)) before the general population had a chance to fight over the newest Andys!

Announcements and new innovations from Newbury park:
1. Arch-top ATOM with "gibson" style tune-o-matic bridge.....nothing but WOW....so much so that the Supreme commander had a hard time "sharing" it this AM:p :p :D ;) Very, very punchy! The bridge really improves on the "playability" and the comfort of the Anderson single cut.

2. SF s/c p/up's. IMHO, should be know as 'supa fat' and smooooth, cause it's not everyday you hear tone soooo robust from a s/c p/up.

Getting rushed off of the computer, but also gotta throw props to our mild-mannered superhero Mr. Brian Swerdfeger (aka Tonelounge). He debuted the newest Taylor electrics (standard and classic) today, and I gotta say, "THANKS Brian!!" for taking the time to demo (and let me play) through your newest creations. VERY sweet!! BTW, the plexi module on Bruce Egnater's amps are AWESOME, like Brown, Brown, burning tone. 5W?!?!!? I'm sold!!!

I'll try and post more tomorrow!

wow! Sounds cool. I just hope I didn't pick the wrong time to order an Atom, which should be in by the end of the month. I'm obviously pumped about the guitar even if they have made some improvements that I won't be able to enjoy. I'm just amped to get the get the thing!

I just checked and Brian has started posting some of Michael's photos. Thanks again, Michael (and Brian)!

Man, that new carved top Atom has my interest!

Tom, are you using a Graph Tech/TonePros Superbridge on these? It sort of looks like one is why I ask.

I put one on my LP awhile back and like it. Along with the TonePros tailpiece it makes for more convenient string changes, not to mention having the advantages of the String Saver saddles.

Is the mahogany back thicker ala a LP?

I'll second this question. ;)

If it has the chunk of a LP and the playability and workmanship of a TAG, I'm in!:D

The new carve-top atom is really sweet. It's thicker than the std atom because it has the thicker maple cap, but it doesn't feel as thick as a Les Paul. The weight is great, the increased neck angle and countersunk bridge and tailpiece make it unique, somewhere in between an atom and a paul. I think Tom even came up with some new pickups for it and they sounded really nice as well. I think it's sure to be a hit. I only hate that I was only able to be at NAMM for a day.

And hey to all the cool forumites I got to meet on Thursday!

Man, I wish I coulda gone to NAMM. I was planning on it, then our tour was booked for this weekend. I'm going to be in LA, but we don't land until Sunday evening! I hope you all who are there are having a great time. ;)

Hey guys, we're headed over the Cornford show at Tone Merchants right now, but I thought I'd post a quick update. The black Atom with the Bigsby is not a carved top - it's a regular flat top, but very, very sweet. I was also hanging at the Egnater booth today with Jeff H, who's the 5th and newest member of Bruce's team. Check out the new E2. It's basically a 1 space pre-amp, with room for 2 modules, coming out in June/July. I'm psyched on the EG5 and the SL2. WHOAAA!!! Talk about EVH/Warren DeMartini and 80's metal IN A BOX!!!!!! I saw Brian Swerdfeger and Cory Witt (Guitarzan) today, and they were both gushing over the mod 50 and the whole Egnater vibe. I'm late to the Egnater "party" (as usual), but am completely blown way by what Bruce has created. I got to play through the mod50 with an EG5 and TD module at the Egnater booth - BROWN and RIPPING. I'm diving in head first!!

Thanks to Tom, Roy and Laurie for the hospitality at the booth. Best couch in show and the Mesa Lonestar Special demo amp makes the TA's shine. I really liked the VA5's in the blue/green Classic. Nice mix of classic tones with a booster. I played another Classic loaded with mini HB's. First time spending anytime with HB's for me in a TA. I like what I heard.

GAS is going to be building after this show.

Egnater's "The Rebel" head was something to hear. Great cleanliness and crunchiness for not a lot of bucks.

Michael- glad we were able to finally meet! Since we were only there SAT and a few hours on SUN we were also really overcome :o - Sorta like like trying to drink from a firehose :p Brian and I took your lead and played thru that Egnater in the Taylor room on Sunday AM- what an incredible amp!

Was able to check in and briefly chat with Laurie, Roy and Tom - with the exciting buzz of the CT and new PU's, they looked to be swamped everytime we passed by. Pete, sorry I missed you- Roy did let me know you
were looking for me. Cory- if you were manning the Taylor area, I could see how there was limited time to get away- their exhibit room is always like a
ant pile kicked over!

Here are some pics of the Anderson goodies to share- enjoy!

Egnater Mod50/M4/E2. I'm in line already!

as for the carve top.
lots of people love les pauls, i was one when i was younger. some love everything about les pauls, and they should play one. others love some things about les pauls but not other things. i'm one of those.
the goal for the carve top was to get some of the sonic parts of the les paul, but not only that, without some of the feel parts of the les paul. the top has about the same amount of maple in it, and it's eastern red maple which is harder than the western big leaf stuff we use on everything else. the neck is set at more of an angle than the regular atom, but les than a les paul. the bridge is set into the top some so that while playing, your hand on the bridge and fore arm on the binding is not all you feel. your arm rests comfortably on the body face. sound wise it's cetainly more aggressive and has a meatier low end. we have also developed a new version of our alnico humbucker for it. i've really enjoyed the smoother high end with the solid bottom it has. mine has an m1 in the neck because i never need the fullness of a full size humbucker in that position. this weekend i'll probably take both versions out to play to get a better feel for the neck humbucker. last weekend i took the ct and my regular special, and the special never made it out of the bag. more later, gotta go paint.

GaryMcT
01-22-2008, 04:42 PM

we're not sheduling delivery till june. there are a few tweaks i want to do and some more tooling to do so it's easier for they gang to do. getting some real nice wood as well. so far all eastern soft maple, so we won't be doing the radical stain colors on that. it doesn't take things like tiger eye as well as the western stuff. we'll stick to the more vintagy colors for now.

Ray: Lang Music ended up with the Trans Amber HDT. Again it is hollow with a mahogany back on it. Kory can give you all the details @ (614) 863-5264.

Tom: what is the story with the new single coils? The only draw back I had to the VA series was the un-even output from string to string with the staggered pole pieces. I'm assuming that is gone with the new ones?

tom
02-04-2008, 11:54 AM
these are some new stacks that fit under covers. we like the sound of them so much in the humcancelling mode that we're not going to split them. more to come in the next few weeks.
