I was surfing Youtube last night looking for some Blood Sweat and Tears and found this clip from some jazz fest they did back in the 90s. I don't know who this guitar player is, but he's playing an older Droptop or Grand AM...he's a killer!
I would love to have this concert on DVD! Check him out...

U sure enjoyed that! ;) I'd liked a lot of his licks. Very fast.

Don't get me wrong here. That guy is obviously an excellent player...but his intro seems to have a lot of stuff that is jUST barely playable for him.

I agree with Mister T. Sloppy, several mistakes, barely hanging on. But he's attempting some cool stuff...

Its interesting to see different folks opinions. For me, I can watch Al Di Meiola, Satch, Vai, even Luke (my fav) for awhile, and get bored, Yes, there were a few clams and not a great amount of soul, but I like players that go out on a limb a bit...makes them more human. The solo caught my eye and ear, the Andy just made it cooler to me I guess..
I'm gonna look up more of that show on youtube to see his take on some other tunes. I have a bootleg of a jazz fest they did back in the 90's, might be the same player. I love to hear retro bands tour and sport these hired guns who can blaze and yet offer refreshing perspectives on old classic tunes!
thanks all!

certainly not what i'd expect before a blood sweat and tears song, but fun none the less. saw them back in '69, and the guitar was a lot tamer back then. love david's voice.
i personally love listening to someone who's "barely hanging on" much more than hearing the solo "just like the record". i know that when i play like that i sometimes fall off the edge, but that's what makes life more interesting. to quote rach who's back at the shop, "it's all good".

There is good sloppy and bad sloppy. When I think of good sloppy, I think of Jimmy Page. That guy is just overplaying for the room and the band. Sounds like "Eruption" backwards. :p

If you want to hear a monster player from the North Sea Jazz Fest, check out Joe Bonamassa.

Don't know if I could pull off any kind of entertaining solo in front of that many people as I sit here today, so kudos to him for keeping the people amused. You can also rest assured all the non-guitar playing people walked away thinking he's as good as anyone alive. And if that helped them have a good time at the show, who's to argue?

We all know he has great taste in guitars. ;)

Now thats what its about . At the end of my gigs when people come and talk to the band I always asked if they enjoyed themselves . If they say yes I always reply with , "then i did my job" . At the end of they day thats what its all about .

Oh yeah, I like me some BS&T. Especially with David fronting them.

While I'm at it, Chicago's Keith Howland is a cool player, IMHO. He also happens to be a Andy player to boot, unless something has changed recently. :)

i doubt there were too many guitar snobs in the audience too. they looked like they were having fun.

I didn't think he was THAT sloppy. It might not have had Johnny Hiland like precision but I enjoyed it. Actually the more I listen to it the more I like it. To me there is good sloppy and bad sloppy and the playing in that vid is good sloppy.

My 2 cents... keep the change.

Tom, if you get the chance, give her a "Hey Rachel!! I missed ya!" from me. Nothing like returning to the family. Welcome back!!!!:p :D ;)

I liked it. Besides, it was a jazz festival. So he hit a few "jazz notes."

without offering an opinion on his technical merit, i thought it was artistic and expressive considering the venue. i do think he could have been even more effective with a well-timed 'power stance' at some point . . .
