this is probably an extension of "my Andersons have ruined my other guitars..." but anyway... I spent an hour in a local shop playing a new Gibson ES-339 and darn near bought it!... but I resisted the urge and came home and sat down with my hollow cobra h1-h2+ and the urge went away... but that Gibson is one sweet guitar... the pickups and the sound is sooo sweet... I am very impressed with what they have done... the body size is perfect and they have kept all the things I love about the 335... what are your impressions out there?... (I still might spring for one!)

Hi Guitarded,

I'm very interested in the new Gibson ES 339 model and read your thoughts with great interest.

It is not yet available in Sweden yet and very few Andersons ;-(

Anyone else tried with differing opinions and/or thoughts on the 339?

Honestly I would go with a PRS Hollow before that. I do have a couple of 335's, but I just did not care for the 339.

What I did was put it a Hollow I and a 335 side by side. I agree when first played it is nice. But it is just not as articulate/growly as the 335.

So for a smoother sounding hollow I prefer my PRS.

That said, if I had to have only one from my 335, Hollow I, or Hollow Cobra S I would go with the Cobra every time and twice on Sunday.

That makes me feel better about ordering a Hollow Cobra S instead of the solid body. I wasn't sure what it would sound like, and was really hoping it would cut the mustard, so to speak, in getting the tone in my head. Roy does a great verbal description of the tones, including making all the sounds himself. "It's more haaaam, than hrrrmmmm". ;)

The guitar hasn't arrived yet, but it's good to hear positive comparisons like that. :)

I have a HCS and 22 other guitars. If you remove the four acoustics that leaves the Cobra and 17 other electrics. Four Andersons, three PRS, three Gibson and the rest Fender, mostly Custom Shop.

The HCS was a "Roy" project, the other Andys are off the rack. If I had to choose only one electric of them all going forward it would be the Hollow Cobra.

If it is a Roy project you will love it. For everyone I speak with about guitars he helps spec, he AWAYS gets it right.

It is indeed a Roy project! :D

I also can't stress enough how great the people at Anderson are. Not just great guitar builders, but fantastic people to deal with too.
