I was curious with all the guitars you have now built throughout the years are there any particular ones that stand out in your mind as being the best sounding and playing? Or do they all pretty much just meld together after all this time?

it's kinda funny. we have made over 13,000 guitars, and i've played just about every one. i've probably missed a hundred or so because of illness or vacation. in the older days people would call and ask a question about their guitar, and i'd say" oh yeah that one has the ..." and they'd be amazed that i remembered their guitar. with my advanced age now i don't remember nearly as much as i used to. aging is heck.
these days there's more repetition of combinations, partly due to the fact that we've made so many guitars, partly fashion, but they do blur together more than they used to. how many bora ash classics can japan consume? i must admit that it is still a treat to play them all. i'd say i don't get wowed by fancy maple anymore or looks in general very often, but i am amazed at how great they play and sound on a consistent basis. i guess the one that always kills me is an alder hollow t classic with a maple neck and tv or m pickups. while i was sick last week i was also playing an atom unplugged and was thinking "if i could only record the acoustic sound of that guitar". it was glorious.

Agree 100% I love the tone of some of my guitars, especially my TAG, unplugged. Not a lot of volume there, but a very pure sound, untouched by the electronics. Figure out a way to capture that and wow!

Alright, that does it! The next Hollow T for me will be hollow alder with a maple neck and TV's. Was gravitating that way, but now you did it. :)

Cool, thanks for responding! I can't even imagine playing around 13,000 Guitars. In my entire life I've probably not played more than 200 or so.

Tom,

I think you might love your work as much as I love mine!

So what finish on an Alder T Classic makes you go WOW!? :)

well, like i said, the finish rarely makes me go wow. we do tons of butterscotch ones, i do really like the tobacco fade and just plain tobacco burst ones. but the custom colors like sea foam green and ice blue are cool too. i lean towards earth tones most of the time.

 I have a custom ordered Purple Burst Cobra S that should be getting close to completion sometime soon. So hold off on the holidays and sickness until after you've given it the thumbs up. :D ;)

Oh, that's really nice. :) Seems like I am more and more into seeing earth tones and wood these days. My Andersons get less blingy as time goes on! :)
