Maybe I missed this earlier...
I just read in our local newspaper's business section that there is a company in Japan that has developed robotic guitars that can tune themselves:eek:
They showed the new Gibson LP retrofitted with one. $2499.00 for the guitar and $900.00 for the robot tuners. Lotta bread for that axe.
While I can see the alternate tuning advantage, not having to bring 2 guitars, orchestral needs..etc., I think theres something almost perverse here.

One of my most relaxed enjoyable times is alone in my room with my guitars,
cleaning and stringing them. I don't mind tuning my own axe, my Strobostomp and DT-7 is as modern as I want to get. Something about this article disturbed me.
Am I wrong??

http://www.gibson.com/robotguitar/

here is the link to gibson's "robot guitar" page.
I looks like the only real thing that is robotic is the tuning.
I wonder if this will be a normal thing in 20 years or if this is just a fad, who knows?

To me, tuning isn't so much of an issue that I need my guitar to do it for me. Quality hardware and a good tuner works for me!

I got to try one this afternoon at a local Gibson dealer....the big reveal isnt until tomorrow but my buddy runs the store so he let me out back. It is a Studio with a weird paint job and some electronics to break down. They are good guitars....nothing special nothing bad. My thoughts sit around durability and reliability.

The Robot Guitar is a novelty that will make Gibson some serious cash tomorrow. The store has 10 or 15 and expect all of them to sell by 5 PM tomorrow. Price is $2150.

Along with the self tuning feature, the should have built them with
the self playing capabilities like some of those hi tech player pianos that are available today - as seen at the Costco roadshows :p
