My volume pot is gritty sounding, guitar is fairly new, only a year old and only played regularly since August. Is there some sort of spray cleaner that can be used to clear this up or should I replace the pot?

Thanks,
Brad

Your local Tandy/Radio Shack will have some contact cleaner spray that should work (assuming it's a dirty pot). These all come with a litle nozzle extension to make it easier to aim it into the pot's opening.

Don't use regular water displacement lubricants like WD40. And, most importantly, whatever you end up using, don't get any of the cleaner on the guitar's finish. If you spray too much in there, it can leak out before it's had a chance to evaporate, so keep a towel on the guitar body to stop it running. You'll do this spraying from inside the control cavity, but you can never be too safe.

DeoxIT D5 made by CAIG is the stuff you want to use... it's what we use in the shop. Aim the nozzle into the opening of the pot where the 3 terminals are, a short squirt is all you need to do and then turn the pot from 0 to 10 back and forth about 10 times... done. Have a paper towel handy for wiping up any overage. Again, a quick short squirt is all you need... don't over do it.
