i really loved the old headstock too. but fender didn't like it much so they strongly suggested we change it. we spent some time trying to convince them that it was intensionally different than their trade marked headstock, but they thought otherwise and they have way more money than we do so we changed it.

i propose a limited run with the old headstock to see if fenders notices it. my guess is that they probably won't because they are too busy taking over another company!

That reminds me of Gibson going after PRS...unsuccessfully (hehehe:D )

How many Les Paul clones are there out there that are near exact copies of a Les Paul, but Gibson chooses to go after PRS for their SingleCut. I'm sure it had absolutely nothing to do with PRS being the #3 manufacturer and cutting seriously into Gibson's profits...;)

we're already on their radar as we're part of the group opposing the body trademark, so we need to tread lightly. the legal costs are absurd already.

it'll never happen. refer to my previous post. they are not being as nice as when they asked me to change the headstock.

So, in all seriousness, are they trying to stop all Strat and Tele body styles from being made or just wanting to collect royalties from everyone using those body styles? Seems absurd to me that after so many years they want to change it now. I can see it now, Tom's new Classics will be a Rhombus with 3 single-coils!

they are just trying to get the trademarks. it is not clear what their intensions will be if they get it.

There's a HUGE thread on TGP started by John Suhr about Fender and the copyrights. He's been extremely vocal about the whole deal. So if you want to debate this topic, head over there and jump in.

I can't find the thread on TGP.

I wonder if Gibson is going to chime in here? Valley Arts and Kramer are both takes on classic Fender shapes.

Fender Body Trademarks (http://www.thegearpage.net/board/showthread.php?t=252672)

I'm with John on this one. How after 50 years is it all of a sudden a big issue? Maybe if Fender could consistently make a decent guitar then they wouldn't have to worry about other people selling Leo's design. I can tell you that my TAG and the Suhrs I've played outplay even the "masterbuilt" guitars I've played from Fender. I'm curious, are they going to go after G&L too?

this is a pretty hot topic, and i'd rather not get into it here. they are entitled to do whatever they feel a need to do, and it is ultimately up to the courts to decide the outcome. the thread on the gear page pretty much turned into a pissing contest and until it is settled it isn't settled.
so lets talk about the fun part of playing guitar,ok?

OK, I have SO MUCH FUN playing my Andy Strat and Tele style guitars compared to my Fenders! And of all the Strat and Tele style guitars out there I believe the Anderson headstock is the most elegant!

And while I would agree that nothing sounds like a LP, my 20th Anniversary Singlecut, (PRS shot at Gibson), comes WAY close, is lighter, has better action, sustain and build quaility than my CS LP's. I really have SO MUCH FUN playing it!

How's that sir! :D

I can be such a pest!

OK, I'll play too. My Anderson > my Fenders. My PRS > than Gibsons I've played.
