Hey guys, I've owned and loved my zendrive for a while now, but I'm finding it to be a tiny bit thin sounding. I'm after that Robben Ford later 90's to modern sound, the rich fat overdrive that's very responsive to pick attack and dynamics. I'm wondering what pedal you guys would recommend to get me there?
Thanks guys,
Kurt

Check the Ethos out...

I just recently placed my order for one (will be Feb/March before I get it) and really like the soundclips and reviews it has received. I too was after more of the Dumble style tones, without having to buy a Fuchs ODS (but may get one of these anyway), Two Rock, or sell off everything I own to buy a real Dumble!.

Thanks guys, I'd heard of this one. How big is the box? I get the impression it's fairly large, not pedal board suitable anyway? I may have to start saving,

You also might want to check out the Barber Small Fry, Lovepedal Eternity and Jetter Gain Stage Red for that tone...

hey john, how does the BB do at keeping the bottom in? seems like so many ods kill the low end.

MI Audio Blue Boy Deluxe does a pretty good job of keeping the bottom under control. It can be dialed in to suit most setups.

i was just thinking about putting the blues pro back on my board. i remember it keeping the bottom nice and full.

The Blues Pro and the BBD really have the bottom end and excessive mid boost problem solved. The Blues Pro has an ever so tiny bit more 'gruffness' to it, which is particularly good for the blues thing.

Tom!
This pedal is very true to sound! If running it straight up (tones at 12:00) there is no tone loss! My amp retains it's purity! If I need to boost or ad low end it's there for the boosting!... Same with the highs.... I really think you should check this pedal out. I love using it......
My Lonestar has a lot of low end to it and find myself cutting it down to 9:00 so I really don't do much adding on that end...:D

Hey Kurt,

Robben was using a Banzai Fireball II into a Twin for that sound in smaller venues during that time. I have a friend who has one and he has recently gone to the zendrive. If you're interested try here, http://www.bassexchange.com/catalog/product_info.php?products_id=1274

+1 to the ol' Blues Pro. I have yet to find an amp that it doesn't like. I really dig the fuzz side with the gain cranked, too.

The only other ODs that see any use on my board these days are:

Rat
Sparkle Drive
MIJ SD-1
Nobels ODR-1
Menatone Workingman's Blue

Kurt, have you thought of trying a Rat? They're not quite as smoothed over as the Zendrive, but with the right setting, you can get a really fat tone out of that pedal. Check out Andy's clip on the Keeley Rat (http://www.robertkeeley.com/product.php?id=7) page.

Thanks guys, this is great, keep 'em coming, I like the sound of the fireball, and the rat clips are very cool too. I love my fulldrive, and I just wish I could add the bass back in the mix, the FD2 cuts a lot of low end out,
Thanks,
Kurt
