Nice thread...purple is my favorite color (although I only have 3 purple guitars)! Here are a couple of pics:

A pair of '88 Rands (they are much more "purple" than they appear in this pic)

The purple on that Charvel is indeed the bees knees!

Here are a few pictures of my trans purple Drop Top. This one is quilted maple, and I'm itching to see what the flamed maple Cobra S will turn out like. When I spoke to Tom on the phone (how good is that guy!) he said that flamed maple comes from a slightly harder wood than quilted maple and doesn't take the dye as deeply. I thought that a trans purple burst would compensate for that.

A decade and a half ago when I worked at Veneman's in Rockville, Maryland, I always loved when the purple guitars came in. Not a color for me, but BOY they were always beautiful. Some TAGs came in that way and a couple Music Man EVH guitars... SWEET... just not me...

The trans purple flamed maple top that you have on your drop top, is making me doubly excited about this. I was umming and ahhing for quite a while about whether I should go for flamed or quilted maple. After seeing yours, I feeling much more comfortable about my decision.

I've seen some beauties in quilt, too. Hard to go wrong with either decision. I can't wait to see yours!

Yes, that is true. I have it now. I recently sent it back to Anderson to refit it with a Kickback setup. "The pusher from Maryland" has it back and I need to get to his abode to pick it up. I knew the guitar had touch a few hand before mine. However, I was the one that first hold the guitar (besides the pusher) and I hit a note on it and it rang to me. The pusher thought it was the guitar for my sweetie. She did not really dig it. However, I said to the pusher "this is a great guitar for me and I wish I could have it, but right now I can't afford it." When I had the cash I called and some else had it. It came back again and went again. Finally it came back to the pusher and I said to the pusher "its mine." So it ended up in my hands. It is player guitar and I gladly let others play it (it has the marks to show it) that are of the Fender-Gibson mind set. This guitar has converted a few of those people to consider an Anderson for their next guitar. For me, it converted me to consider Anderson as my next second (sweetie's) and third guitar and planning on the next fourth guitar. I can't wait to get it back and hear what Tom, Roy and the other at Anderson have done with the Kickback system.

HAH! Jeff, you're too perceptive. One of the reasons I sent it back to WMC was that I didn't care for the setup....BUT, I also had my Sweet and Sour Cobra already on order....

....so, yeah, part of the reason I didn't hold onto 'er was due to the color! :p

The "Pusher from Maryland" gave me back my Cobra S with the retrofit kickback system. I highly recommend anyone who has an Anderson with a set of Ms or a combo of Hs and Ms to consider this option. It is like having an extra channel in your amp. You set you amp up with the kickback "on" as your rhythym, then when you are ready for you lead ... flip the switch to "off" to release the full power of the humbuckers and you have yourself a lead tone within an amp's single channel.

I was a little disappointed with the kickback when I first got my Atom, not because it doesn't sound 'as advertised'...it does (at least, it replicates a single coil tone better than any other split humbucker I've used/heard). But my biggest frustration with split humbuckers was not the sound, but the volume drop. I experienced the same thing with the kickback, and it frustrated me. However, once I tried it at full stage/gig/recording volume, WOW. That made all the difference in the world. The volume drop then was negligible AND the kicked back tones were great. Now I love it and use it all the time. Very, very usable tones with it.

After lurking in the shadows of the Anderson forum for a couple of years, the purple guitar thread compelled me to finally throw caution to the wind and post a few pictures. Please be kind to a newbie, but I am sure there are a few other Floyd / Kahler guys out there (even if the guitars are not purple...)

- 1985 Charvel San Dimas Strat (Original Owner from back in the day)
- 1992 Anderson Drop Top
- 1993 PRS Custom 24 (short heel)
- 1995 Charvel San Dimas IV

Petri358, that purple top is the ultimate definition of 'transparent purple'. It's a deep rich purple with just the right amount of blue and red. I love the gold hardware / and maple neck combo too. Your guitar is pure class. Top shelf material right there.

I think with all these hand painted purples, it's pretty hard to keep the colours identical between batches of paint and differences in the wood. All three of my purple Andersons are very different shades of purple.

But, I must say, all those Suhr and Andy tops really look great in any shade of purple.
