This has probably been addressed before but I failed to find anything.

Why does Anderson Guitarworks choose not to offer a painted headstock on a guitar with a maple neck/fretboard? I'm considering a custom order and was told this was a no-go.

a personal dislike of mine. i always think it looks funny to have the body color separated with 18" of white maple fingerboard.

Would you ever consider it if I promised to never post a picture? ;)

nope. it's one of the few cosmetic details i've managed to stick to even though a get harassed about it regularly.

I'm with Tom on this one. I'm not a fan of that look at all. It always reminds me of people that wear bright colored shirts with matching socks.

Me too...never liked that look. But to each his own.

Interesting. Tom, what about lighter colors like White, TV Yellow, or other light color? Do you not like those either?

Personally, I like some of the guitars I see with it. I guess it depends on headstock shape and how it fits the overall design of the guitar. I really like the EBMM EVH/Axis models with a matching headstock, but I did not care for the Peavey ones with the Black only headstock. However, the Zakk Wylde Camo Les Paul works with a Black headstock. One of my favorites is a White headstock with Black logo with a White guitar body and Black binding, but again, is has to fit the guitar. I think TAGs would look cool with matching headstocks.

I once saw a black strat style guitar with a maple board and a black headstock....it looked like an old man wearing black shorts and black socks.

Fender Custom Shop did that on a bunch of models in the 90's. Really nice figured necks with a goofy painted headstock. I think they look horrid.

I am with Tom on this. Then again, I don't think I have ever disagreed with him?

i'm sure we could find something to disagree about, but why look. i think we both like lots of things and that's what makes life fun.

Tom, didn't you build one of those EVH necks pictured above?

we did make and install a neck for the original franky. it looks like it is still on there. it has the short overhang after the last fret. benny did the paint job on the headstock. i'm also the one that moved the bridge up to where it could be intonated. the floyd had the mounting studs in a straight line with the vintage trem mounting screws:eek:
i remember back when we were doing all the ripley stuff ed or the guy recording commenting on how in tune things were. it's no wonder having played the guitar with the bridge 1/4" out of position.

also, i remember someone commenting about a nice light weight on the franky. ed's was heavy like a brick.

That's interesting. I played one of the Fender clones (what an overpriced joke) and it was fairly lightweight. Apparently they missed a major detail!

I remember a lavender Classic with maple board and matching HS on ebay not too long ago. I loved that guitar!

Possibly...or maybe not :)

we didn't build that one. it was a parts guitar.
