Hello My girlfriend got a 8 strings Ukulele, from her Grandma. It has no name inside. It looks like the neck is Tropical Mahogny, and to me it lokks like it`s Koa in the top and bottom, Mahogny at the sides.. I have no Koa guitars. Can anyone tell me what type of wood it is? I have not got time to string it up yet. I think i will change to a more modern type of tuningpegs..My biggest consern is a crack around the saddle, so they have installed a Mandolin type of string holder.. ugly one.. It`s not made with good finish, but maby I can get it playable!

Anyone at this forum who are playing the Ukulele? European tuning and original ukulele tuning is A G F# B

I have a uke that I picked up last time I was in Hawaii for hammock-time, but I'm not particularly good at it yet. :)

Morty,

Looks like koa to me :) Congrats and have fun with it!
I use the std? GCEA ( Good Cooks Eat Alot) and also try slack key GCEG.

Gary,

Nice G-string- They make some killer ukes!

Here's a pic of a Kanile`a Tenor that I picked up at last month while at
the slack key festival in Honolulu. As with guitar, Im also a hack with
the uke :o but even I couldnt make this uke sound bad :D
