Basswood back, Alder top

Wow, that's an interesting combo. Basswood and Alder, to me, are solo or back woods. In other words, I've always considered those two to be either a standalone choice or something you had a cool top to. But hey, I don't build 'em, I just buy 'em and play 'em. ;)

I say go for it, it would definitely be unique and may get some serious tone!

not having done that, i'll have to guess. i think the top would be a very subtle change from all basswood. probably not worth the extra work to construct. it's not different enough to make a significant change to me.

I kinda told the guy the same thing that Tom just said. The subtle difference would not likely be worth the upcharge in my opinion.

I get the impression he just wants it to be different.
