I remember the strange days early this year when Anderson almost became a super boutique shop of one.

Are you happy with your decision to keep things going as a company? Just curious, and you don't have to reply, if it's too personal, etc.

this is a great place full of great people. everyone has chipped in to help carry the load. there is more administrating to be done which isn't what i'm best at, but i still get to get dirty in the wood shop.
the other choice would have been a tough one to live with, and i'm glad it went the way it did. there's still lots of guitars to be made.

Nothing beats a good administrator! I'm sure you thought of hiring one - there are probably more to choose from now that the mortage biz is in the toilet?

Glad you stayed on the quest to keep building quality tone machines, for purely personal reasons - I might want another one down the road!

I am always in awe that of the 2 mags I subscribe to (guitar player and guitar world), you never see an Anderson ad? Tom, it must be nice not to have to advertise your business? Yet, you guys stay busy?

Think about it . You obviously found your way to Anderson like the rest of us . Im sure it wasnt through a publication . I think with me , the first one i saw was Simon Townsend (yes, petes bother) playing one on a Who tour . Then i saw a couple at a Guitar show , then friend got one which allowed me to actually plug in and play with some uninterupted time . It sold itself with me . I ended up with a cobra (H1 & H3). I use it in the way i would use my les pauls . Only difference is it has its own voice . Its a joy to play .

advertising can be a substantial financial burden on a small company. i am very grateful we haven't had to do that. we are large enough to have the things we need to do what we want to do(have great tools, buy great wood, pay benefits, spend as much time as it takes to get it right) and small enough to be able to make decisions based on what we really like the sound and feel of.
my hats off to anyone who can grow a guitar company.

The TAG sells itself once you lay your hands on it.

The TAG sells itself once you lay your hands on it.

Absolutely! There's no going back once you've experienced the precision and tone that is TAG.

One of my friends just got his mits on a custom Dean made for Jerry Cantrell. He's gushing, which is cool, and I'm all about getting a custom axe made for a celeb player.

BUT he made the mistake of comparing his JP Gibby, his Dean and his other 1-off "custom" guitars to my Andys.

Ignorance? completely.

I explained that EVERY TAG is a custom guitar, and that 1 single guitar made up for a celebrity or customer with $$$ is NOT the same as a TAG.

TAG's are made daily. And with that daily work, a certain consistency and build quality begins to evolve - and it's been that way since 1986! The "machine" that is TAG represents a team at the top of its game, and its work = precision. Competition? None, IMHO.

Working out the kinks and understanding how to properly build/assemble/setup a rocking axe cannot be undervalued, IMHO.

No thanks, I'll stick with my Andys. No advertising necessary!!!:p (apologies for the OT rant)

First Anderson I saw was on a tape I bougt in '90 called "Hot Guitarist" Volume 1 (there's one on ebay now). It featured a segment on gear with Viv Campbel. He went over all his now-silly rack stuff, but came to his "guitar to die for", an Anderson Grand Am (I believe)! He called Anderson the only company making a true straight up rock guitar (back then). Went over the switching, and pickup tone, etc. Very cool tape to pick up!

That introduced me to the guitar with the big "A" on the headstock! But I do remember some TA ads in Guitar Player or Guitar World, if I'm not mistaken?
