my TAG is a two humbucker job with a 5 way switching and pull switch on the tone knob that works when i go to postition three. i have never owned a guitar with a set up like this. i have a pretty good grasp of the obvious when working with positions 1, 3, and 5, and with the pull switch. what i don't fully understand is what is happening at 2 and 4. there is a significant drop in volume at these positions. are they taps?

that is neck or bridge split. it's half a pickup so it will be weaker. usually when playing live the extra clarity makes it cut through better so the volume drop is not as significant as when playing alone.

cool, i wish i would have tried that this morning. i'm temporarily stuck playing through a line 6 ax2 212 that belongs to the cat i'm replacing. i needed that extra clarity for one tune and just could'nt get the right tone.
thanks again mr. t

I find I use the number 2 and 4 positions the great majority of the time when playing live. Like Tom mentioned, those positions cut through the mix very well and the perceived volume drop is barely noticeable.
