If Tom built a Les Paul, it would be the Collings City Limits. I've just acquired 2 in the last month, and am loving them. All of the fit and finish you've come to expect from Newbury Park with just the right bit of Austin.

I feel guilty, but it feels SO good!

Have you tried a Grosh Set Neck? I'm curious how they compare if so. Played one a few times recently and it was basically the best Les Paul I've ever played. It was light, and had the chunk that you expect from an LP. The body is every bit as big as an LP, but still very very light and comfortable. Played another Set Neck that wasn't quite there on the low end, but it had the wraparound bridge instead of the 2 piece that you typically see on an LP. I hear that can cause some loss on the low end. The Fralin 8K and 9K pickups in the one that I liked were *very* appealing.

Looked online at the Grosh, but my heart lies in Texas, so I went with a homeboy. The Huber, Grosh, Collings and Gustavson were all in the consideration set. The Collings has Lollar Imperials 8.3k and 7.5k.

The local dealer here that also carries Tom's guitars is carrying Collings electrics now as well. I've been gassing big time for one since he started getting them in stock. Absolultely beatiful guitars with a sound and playability to match.

I've been tempted to trade in my PRS Singlecut for one, but I'd have to come up with lots of cash too.

I'm in trouble. The Collings dealer in Seattle is starting to get the electric models in.

I have a Collings 290, and it just feels and sounds like rock n' roll to me. I also have a Grosh Set Neck and for me it is the LP that I have been looking for, I like the Collings CL's but the Grosh fills my needs in this area. I think Bill Collings has nailed the Gibson vibe and one upped them just like Tom has done with the Fender design.

I also have a couple of TAG's - a Classic and a Hollow T w/ contours. Right now, I alternate mainly between the Classic and the 290.

That black Collings CL is the PERFECT black beauty. Oh, I am so jealous, but thank you for posting the pic. Now I know what to refer to when I decide to order mine!!!

BTW, the Grosh Set Neck is also a killer guitar. Don's guitars IMHO are little more open and airy, but the Collings nails the attitude of a great LP.

For reference, a semi-hollow/chambered Grosh Set Neck sounds pretty similar to my Atom if they both have the same pickups (only compared the bridge position though since I have M's in the other positions). The solid Grosh Set Neck (which still has a little bit of chambering) has more LP-ish low end with the same pickups.

funny, I was gonna say if he finds another TWO HTC's, he should just send one on over... I see our powers of opportunistic manipulation rival each other.

I had a Collings OM but tht " V" neck caused me alot of hand pain .Can beat their sound though .I have a 1972 D-28 and 1992 HD -28 which are very nice but that Collings was special .
