View Full Version : Kickback Circuit?

Is the purpose of the kickback circuit to make a humbucker or M-series pickup sound more like a single coil than just splitting the coils? I assume it would have no use with VA or TV pickups, correct?

How close to the VAs & TVs does the kickback get?

I love my VAs (classic) & TVs (hollow T classic), but would always be interested in adding a humbucker to the classic bridge or hollow T neck. But it's just not been worth losing that sweet single coil tone. Wondering how much of a compromise the kickback would be.

Just checking back ... anybody (Tom? Roy?) got an answer to this thread? Thanks!

your stated purpose is correct. to me it sounds more like you would expect a single coil to sound, split humbuckers are always extreme single coil tones by comparrison.
how close? that's a tough question. close for some people is in the ballpark, and for others it's darn near perfect. if you're a vintage single coil guy it won't fool you. if you're a humbucker guy, you will be thrilled at how well it does those sounds right next to your humbucker sounds.

Thanks Tom. That's just the answer I'm looking for. I'm pretty sure I'm in the single coil camp and I'm almost sure I'm too picky to lose the VAs & TVs. Maybe when I buy a Atom ...
