Hi Tom, I'm trying to find out how much it would cost to change the nut width on my cobra s from 1 and 11/16 to 1 and 5/8 and to make the proper shaving on the neck where the nut is. Thanks, Mark

it's $200, we have to shave the neck, repaint, and cut new nut.

Sounds great. I don't really want to mess with the solid rosewood neck, but I love the feel of the narrower nut width a lot better. Thanks Tom. Do I address the guitar in care of Bruce since he's probably going to be doing the work? And do you know how long it would take? Thanks, Mark

Aw, never mind-why mess with a good thing-I'm sure there's a miniscule difference between 1 and 5/8 and 1 and 11/16 (I guess that would be 1/16 of an inch). Thanks Tom.

it is a small difference, but some people are more sensitive than others to differences. i never mind when people leave it as it was made.

I actually feel a pretty substantial difference between the 1 5/8 and 1 11/16 versions of the 62 Roundback carve. More so depth wise. I actualy believe the 1 11/16 version is about .020 deeper than the 1 5/8 version. I'm weird, I have small hands but like larger necks!

Ohhhh, now you've done it! You got me thinking again Stan! I do feel a difference although technically speaking, there shouldn't be that much of a difference. I don't know-I've always played 1 and 11/16 or 1.687 with the exception of a Hollow Classic that had the 1 and 5/8 nut width. But ever since I bought my Suhr that has the 1.65 nut, I've had a hard time playing the wider nut. Part of it could be the Suhr neck feels more comfortable too in my hands because of the radius and shape, but I do feel enough of a difference to consider changing the nut width. The problem is I love the tone on this guitar-the neck may feel like a baseball bat, but it smokes on high gain amps. I don't want to mess with it by shaving the neck and having the nut replaced.
