Anyone had experience with this wood combination? I'm contemplating a VA-loaded classic in my future. The tones that I'm looking for are the shimmery/chimey variety like Mark Knopfler. (My Drop Top covers the dirty SRV side of things pretty well, so that's not what I'm looking for.) I'm also contemplating chambering since that worked out so well on my Hollow T (which has the same wood combo). Thoughts?

Not in an Anderson, but...
I have an alder Fender Strat with a maple neck and a swamp ash G&L Legacy with a rosewood fretboard on a maple neck. Both guitars have G&L Alnico V pickups in the front 2 positions, and both have the G&L PTB wiring setup, with volume, master treble and master bass.
I mention all that just to say that the wood is maybe the biggest different between them.
On the chambering issue, I had a lot of the wood removed form beneath the Alder Strat's pickguard. Not nearly the same thing, I know, but it had the desired effect of giving it a more airy voicing. Still, it has more mids than the G&L.
The G&L has less in the midrange and is a bit chimier, compared to the alder Strat. It is the guitar I grab for the clean stuff, for that very reason.
If you go for a chambered ash body, I'd LOVE to hear your thoughts.
Hope that helps.

Gary,
In the past I had that combo (solid body version) but with SDs and and H2+. I liked the sound but preferred the SA sound since it was fuller. The sound was still awesome though. The sound was more SRV and modern as opposed to Knopfler-esque. Of course I did not have VAs.

I have a 96 Swamp Ash Classic w/ Rosewood/maple and SD's. Am going to get a H2+ in the bridge instead of the SD2 (as soon as I can get a deal on one), but love the guitar..kinda like a Strat on Steroids...

I have a cherryburst swamp ash classic with m's. I really like this combination for leads. Warm and musical. To me, not as punchy as alder but very fluid.
