I have been checking out Bogner Duende online and have narrowed my choices to it or the Carr Mercury.I am about 2 hours away from nearest Bogner dealer .....Any help would be appreciated ........

do a search around here. I'm pretty sure there's been some discussion (although I'm not sure how far back the threads go).

Chasy has one and really dug it. Bud (who is his partner at work) loved it enough to threaten to steal it. Guitarzan (yours truly) loved it enough to threaten to steal it as well. Alas, it's been at my house for almost a month now. Chasy, I'll be bringing it back soon.

It's a great 6v6 amp. dark and growly. trem is sweet. verb is sweet. it makes a really great platform for pedals if you set it just on the edge of breakup. Both channels are similar and can be mixed (which is footswitchable). EQ makes dramatic changes, so you're bound to find a great sound in there. Also, it's light for a combo. It feels like it's only between 30 and 40lbs. (I could be wrong though- I tell myself I'm getting stronger every day).

I used it for a couple of weeks while my Egnater was getting some love from Bruce back in Detroit. I still prefer the Egnater, but the Duende is a very very close second.

I've had one for about a month and love it. It's an awesome little 15 watt combo that's just the right size for most gigs. If you need more, just mic it. I agree with Guitarzan, it reacts really well to pedals. The clean channel is better than any black face deluxe you can imagine but with a gain. The dirty channel is kind of like a hot rodded tweed. The clean plus dirty is an option I never thought I'd use but it works great as a boost. The reverb is super smooth, but not as nice an outboard box. The tremolo is cool, but the photo cell may be just a little too slow or rounded a waveform for me. I still use my pedal trem for most stuff, but it's nice to have two different rates set up. As for playing at low volumes ... one group I play in is a duo, acoustic & electric playing in a restaurant. It's perfect for that. I also play in a 5 piece and a 9 piece and I've never had a problem keeping up with drums and another electric player.

This is the first amp I've played through where all 5 pick up positions on my CS Relic Strat are usable choices. The bridge position is bright, but without the ice picks. It's amazing with a hotter humbucker, creamy smooth distortion. It sounds good in my basement, in the rehearsal hall, and at 5 different gigs so far. Bottom line is this. I play better when I'm playing through this amp.

Of course after reading postings on this board for a week, now I want to try an Egnator. I feel like a really only need two amps in life. A Fender clean, and a Marshall dirty. The GAS never ends, does it?

Ffogg,

Enjoy!

I'll be curious to hear how much you go back and forth between the two channels. They are kind of similar to me, just different voicings. But still a VERY cool sounding little 15 watt amp. Very responsive with lots of sag.

And not a light little load either. This amp is pushing my 1 block rule. That is - I need to be able to carry all my gear (amp, pedalboard, and two guitar gigbag) for ONE BLOCK. Presumably, that's the furthest I'll park from the gig, which I know is dreaming.

Tom-

It gets harder evey year. I'll be throwing pedals off the pedalboard like sand bags out of a balloon before long. Makes you strip down to what you really need.

FFOGG, The Duende is a great amp, I've owned the Bogner XTC 101b
& Classic and my current choice the Shiva (EL-34) type, it's great at low
living room to performance level. I like the fact that you can blend the two channels of the Duende together, so for now my Hollow Droptop and Shiva are what I use for studio & live performances, good luck with your amp!

The voicing are similiar wh / was suprising to me .I love the way it handles both singlecoils and HB.It takes pedals exremely well and the volume is very manageable at household levels .
The cleans are 3 D but it is heavy but not as heavy as my Mesa LSS ...You know its not cheap but ...
