I am thinking of sending in my 96 Classic for the "Spa" treatment. While its in California, I might get some other work done. It has SD1/SD1R/SD2. I am finding that I would like to get a fuller sound for solos in the bridge....any suggestions that compliment the SD's? I was thinking an M3 or an H02 or something that would be warmer and yet split well with the middle SD? Suggestions Tom, Roy, Bruce?

i forget what's in your atom. how would you like it to compare to that? knowing the classic is tighter with more attack.

If you go the H route, just remember that hotter pickups split better. An HO2 sounds great in 'bucker mode but may be weak if you decide to split it.

I have the M1/M1/M2 in the Atom. Its great for that guitar, but the SD2 in my classic has never been my ideal pickup. I love the SD's in bridge/middle, but want a complimentary bridge hum or maybe an M to fatten up, but not over blow the other SDs. This is a swamp ash guitar. If an H won't split well, then maybe a hotter/fatter single coil? Thats why I thought of an M2 or M3.
Tom, Is it possible when I send the Classic in for you folks just to do a "base-line physical" and let me know what it needs? I know I have a nut and fret issue, but its a 12 year old guitar and may need other things as well as a good buff/rub down...Would do the pickup change then probably...
thanks-Shaun

Shaun,
I have owned two solid body Swamp Ash Classics both with SDs in the neck and middle. One had an H2+ and one had an H3 in the bridge. I personally loved the H2+ version. Makes me wish I never had to sell that guitar. The H2+ split well and eventhoug it was hot, it did not over power the SDs.
it depends what is most important to you shaun. the bigger sounding humbuckers will have a better split sound, but the weaker ones or an m with have a more compatible full sound. is one more important than the other for you?

I want a bigger, bolder sound in the bridge and want it to split well with the SD. I think the H2+ is the way to go. I have had that pickup in almost all of my other TAs and know the character. Thanks for the input everyone..Tom I will call the shop in a few weeks to discuss the other work too.(when I get some bread together):o
