It only happens to me it seems. I noticed a slight bow in my Atom's neck and was adjusting it saturday before I packed it up for the road. When I fitted the allen wrench in the notch at the headstock, it was an extremely tight fit. I had strings on it so I could'nt maneuver it but so much. I pulled as straight and hard as I could and when it came out, it left a 3" long scratch in my nice new headstock:eek: .........I screamed like a little girl.
I THINK I can polish it out when I restring this week, but I have a tip for you all/ Sand the edges of your allen wrench before you use it and don't adust the neck with strings on (probably another thing I did wrong:mad: )Anyway, now the guitar has character. Anybody have a suggestion about the scratch (coverup/polish?)

OUCH!

I found the same problem. I put a bit of the Nut Sauce on the hex key and it slid right in.

You can protect the headstock (if you need to) by placing painter's masking tape over the area you think might get scratched. Or even hold an index card if you don't want to mess with tape.

You want to keep the strings on so you can get an accurate idea of how the neck is bowed while checking and adjusting it. It's really that easy.
