I need some help-what is everyone's take on the SA2 or SA1, versus the SD1?
This guitar is due in February, and I have 2 TAG's with the SA1's already.
Am I making a mistake by getting the SD's instead of the SA's?
Current order SD1-SD1R-H2+/Switcheroo
Help!

What body wood do you have on your SA1 equipped guitars. I have found that SDs are brighter than SAs, but the body wood also affects the tone. I found not much difference in a Basswood Drop Top with SA or SDs. The both sounded bright to me. I had both a Swamp Ash Classic with SAs and one with SDs and found the SD version to be brighter than the SA version but not as bright as on a Basswood Drop Top.

The body wood is going to be hollow swamp ash.

I think SD p/u could be too bright if not matched with the proper neck/body wood combo. I have a hollow DTC Swamp Ash/Maple Top, Maple/Madagascar neck, with SA1s and can't imagine making it any brighter.....

BTW what neck wood are your pairing with the Swamp Ash?

Neckwood-Maple/Rosewood
I am rethinking the SD's-I may go with SA2's-your thoughts?

That's going to depend on what type of tone you're after. SA2s are going to be pretty HOT. I like that choice with that wood combo for the neck pos, to get a nice thick SRV type tone. Here's the other thing to consider...lower output pickups will let the natural timbre of your wood choices ring out more naturally (better IMHO).......

I'd talk to Roy and discuss what tones you have in mind at let him help yo decide between SA1s or 2s...I think your decsion to go with SA1s over SD1, with that wood combo will allow your axe to sound more balanced.

I spoke with Roy last night, and changed pu's to SA2, only because I have SA1's in a Hollow Classic, and a Hollow Drop top at this time. It should be interesting to see the difference, I just didn't want to duplicate anything.
I agree with you, the SD's probably would heve been too bright for this application.
I will keep you posted, and your input in greatly appreciated!
