View Full Version : Compare 62 Roundback vs. Small V?
Hello,
I'm new here but I've been an Anderson owner for 2yrs. I have another one coming and I have a question about necks.
Can anyone compare the 62 roundback with a small V. I currently have a small V and I love it. The new guitar is spec'd with a 62 roundback and I want to know what differences I should expect. Does the roundback feel like a 'big' neck compared to the small V? because of the shoulders?
I'd like to try a little larger and rounder neck but I don't want to go too big and have it feel clumsy in my hands. Any ideas, suggestions, and feedback are much appreciated.
Thanks!

Don't really know the difference between the V and 62. Of the seven A's I have, three have 62 RB with 1 5/8 nuth width. For me they are the most comfortable to play guitars I have.
I think one of the things that sets the A's apart, regardless of the neck back shape, is the fingerbaord radius.
This is all jut my.$02 BTW. These opinions do not represent the TAG forum, its employees and affiliates, and may be considered null and void if you want to.
I love the '62 Roundback. I had the small 'V' at one point but found the '62 to be more comfortable. It's not chunky but it does have some meat. Although, going with the 1 11/16" nut may make the neck feel a bit "bigger".
The neck will have 1 11/16ths nut.
the 62 is fuller in the shoulder area. it shouldn't feel lots bigger than the small V.
Ok. Good news from Tom. I assume the 62 roundback is a C shape neck?

I have a 1 5/8th 62 Roundback Pete Anderson carve on my classic. Most comfortable neck I've had. This is slightly smaller than a standard 62.
I've played both. I own a classic with 1 11/16th and 62 RB. Best neck in the world for me. It does feel bigger than the small v in my hands...mostly because the shoulder of the RB fill up my hands more. I don't know that my thumb and fingers are any futher apart if that makes sense.

I'm right there with you, LOVE the 60s Vibe (formerly 62 Roundback). Both my Atoms on order (one on the way right now, the other in March) have the 60s Vibe. Just can't get on with the smaller necks now.
played a walnut topped thing today. wonder where that's going?

:D How did it sound? Is this the first solid body Atom with a walnut top? I'm anxious to hear how it sounds vs. the hollow with walnut. Should have an interesting character to it.
this is the first solid walnut topped atom. it had a nice yet full top end. sounds like it will cut through a band very nicely without being piercing.

I personally think there is a huge difference in the 62RB. I ordered a HTC in 2004 with a 1 11/16 62BR without playing one. It was nice... but I hadn't played enough neck's to know what was my personal favorite. I bought and sold many guitars, and I fell in love with the Small V. I finally ordered my latest HTC with small V. I think I can enjoy every neck, but each has distinct qualities to it... I'm curious to what you think when you get yours... and how they compare! ;)
