View Full Version : Do I wanna do this?

In the last month or so I bought the following 2 Andersons from my local dealer.

1. Baby Blue Classic (strat) 10-06-06N ---$2,900

2. Ruby Slippers Classic (tele) 11-21-06A---$3,200

I have had several people tell me they would give me what I paid for them. So do I want to sell these or not? I have basically never even strummed them. I bought them to collect. But I have a baby on the way and taking $6K out of savings to do this scares the crap out of me. I am not a high roller who can afford to have piles of guitars around. I am a policeman on a modest salary. I have a couple of other Andys that I play so owning these is just for the sake of collecting. I don't need the money or anything. If anything I need the space in my house with a kid on the way. So why am I fretting spending this kind of money? Is it realistic that someone is going to give me what I paid for them? I am not about to sell them at a loss. Do I wanna sell these?

In the past, Andersons have sold for well under what they were bought for, so if you need cash and don't need the guitars, I'd say take advantage of the situation.

BTW, your Baby Blue gave me enough GAS to custom order one very like it.

... I was in the same boat when Baker folded shop. I received an offer that was too good to be true and took it without looking back. A few years later and I could now buy it back for half of what I was paid. The ups/downs of the market - take advantage, espcially since you're not playing them.

For myself alone and with tone and oneness, Mike

Kevin,

If I may...keep your priorities in order.

I believe family should be near the top of the list, hobbies/collecting on down. Based on those merits, and with a new child on the way, I personally think the answer is clear.

But, talk it over with, and listen to your wife - seriously!

Wish you the best! :)

If you are just starting to become a collector, full price Andys are really not a good place to start. And currently resale on Andy's is equivalent to full price. Might not be like this soon.

Based upon the personal situation described and the fact that you already own Andys, I would let them go. However if you want to collect still maybe sell them, and get a good CS Strat and/or double bound Tele with a figured neck. Be sure to get a Time Machine series, not a Custom Classic. You can likely find these regularly for under $2k.

I liked to check out Ebay for the last year, seeing what TA's were listed. The number of guitars has dropped since the downsize word was released. Used to be 10-15 guitars, now it's maybe 5-8. Owners aren't hoarding, but are pulling guitars off the market in a wait and see what the market does posture. Eventually, I think the TA market will become more populated with guitars that are temporarily of the market.

Your buys are exactly at the low end of the market and when new TA's come out, "old" TA's prices will be affected. You have some TA's on hand, baby on the way and offers to get out without any loss. I'd consider selling.

If you can still get what you paid for them, imho, it would be a good time to sell. Recovering list price for what would be considered "pre owned" would be satisfactory considering the new baby timing.

I say sell as well. You already have your playing TA, you don't need guitars that will sit around un-played when you can have the money to use for family needs, etc.

I think you collect Gibsons and Fenders, and you PLAY Andersons! Such a well crafted and playing guitar shouldn't sit in it's case under a bed!

Good luck!

HA not a chance...No Gibsons or Fenders to my name! I know they are what everyone likes.....except me. I don't really go for them. I have 5 Andersons and 7 PRS guitars.

I just don't know if I can get rid of these though. Especially the Andy Classic Strat. Man that one just speaks to me. I don't need the money near as bad as I need the space. The only bad part of owning 20 guitars(counting acoustics and 3 basses) is that you also have 20 CASES !!

I know...maybe I will just get rid of all the PRS stuff right...who am I kidding....I am a gear junkie all the way.....if I sell anything in 6 months I'll still find "just one more" that I can't live without!

sell......these guitars are meant to be played.....if not by you, then someone else should have the pleasure. And all the best for the impending arrival.
