any one tried the Boss ME-50 or the Carl Martin Quattro? Thinking of getting one or the other as a first step with FX pedals.

I had a ME 50, I found it limiting in stacking effects, even just a couple at once. That unit has been out for 4 years easy, so it might be going away.
I have no experience with the Quatro-check out Harmony Central. This site is amazing!
The Boss GT-8 is amazing. The learning curve is a little steep, but not bad at all. Plug one in if you can at a dealer. I have a BR 1600CD with the GT 6 built in it. The tones are a blast, and they record really well.
I use a Line 6 DL4 Stereo delay(amazing!), a Boss CE 20 Stereo Chorus, and a Boss RT 20 Rotary, with a Radial JS-x channel switcher, in stereo. Budda Superdrive 18 on one side, and a Fender Concert Reverb 4 x 10 on the other side. All these pieces are keepers!
Monster wall of sound. This has taken 6 years to get here, and been through tons of gear to get here.
If you buy the Quattro, let me know what you think.
Peace, brother!

I got a LOT of use out of the original POD, but upgraded it to a ToneLab SE recently, so I can be "silent" on stage and sound the same every time.

It's wonderful. I'm guessing using a vaccuum tube to beter emulate the power amp makes all the diff, even though I liked the new PODs, too. I'd prefer a really great amp, but can't make that much noise on stage, so this is a really nice compromise.

Hi dave,

I'm new to the forum but I think you should try out the TC Electronic G Major. It's a rack mount but you can fit it ontop of a combo with an fx elevator. it is amazing and much better than any stomp fx units. Try it with a midi pedal - they do a G Mior unit which is very small and works really well.

I use an ME-50 when I play at church, bu the onnly sounds I use from it is a touch of compression, sometimes chorus, and sometimes a delay. I can stack all three of those together, but it is relatively limited in that respect. Overall, I like it for what it does.

I used a Roland GP-8 for years and absolutely loved it (back then). Things have certainly changed since.;)

Have both and ME-50 and GT-8. Like the ME, love the GT. The ME is great for having tons of effects available and works great played into my Deluxe Reverb. Absolutely no complaints. Went to the GT-8 primarily to get amp modeling. I play primarily praise and worship direct into the PA; the GT-8 absolutely kills. Great tone and can go from super clean Jazz Chorus to super-cranked Marshall instantly. Flexibility is amazing. Yes, there is a learning curve -- seemed to me it boiled down to getting through a couple of basic concepts and now all is very easy and intuitive. The additional functionality and flexibility is well worth the less than $200 between the GT-8 and the ME-50.

Yes, I am still using the ToneLab, going on two years now. For my purposes it's great. I know a great boutique amp would sound better, but I'm able to dial up presets, between that and the acoustic side on a Yamaha AG-stomp, to go between guitars without thinking. Since I have four guitars I use "two-voice" style, it's great to not have to worry about this. I have at least a bank for my Crowdster Plus, one for each of my two Godins (one with synth which I use less and less and therefore might sell), and one for my US Masters with the piezo added. AWESOME. I'll never have a non-stereo guitar again.

Since I'm normally leading worship, that works well for me. I can dial up the exact same sound next week I used last week if I need to, and focus all my attention on my other musicians and singers and really lead them.

I had a POD 2.0 which was fine, but the ToneLab has more soul. I almost got the POD XT Live, which, to be honest, would probably have been about as good. The rotary effect in the ToneLab is the only real disappointment, but I use it so seldom.

I'm at work right now, so I'm about to go and hook it up and start rockin! Gonna do some Tomlin, some Crowder, a hymn or two... MAN, I can't believe I get paid to do this!

I have to give thumbs up to tc electronic units as well. Very transparent. None of those weird "gremlin" tones you hear with Digitech.

Another vote for the tone lab, I tried all the others, pod, and the boss units among others, and found the tonelab to be the most amp like. If possible, try and run it through some kind of tube preamp, the more tubes the better right?! I ran it into a vht valvulator, and it sounded great.

On a lark, I bought one of these cheapo 30 dollar TubeMP Studio preamps (ART) that Musician's friend is blowing out. It makes a HUGE difference. I basically tried it tonight as a tube DI with the ToneLab... I will never run without it again and should probably pick up a second one. I mean... 30 bucks. That is cheaper than a cable!

Any comments on the SE versus the LE?

Incredibly great live. My whole board is a G-System, expression pedal and a Stobostomp. G-System even changes my amp channels. Love the +10db solo boost too.
