Last night, after a recording session, the bass player and I decided to go get some food. We argued because he wanted Taco Bell while I wanted to go get some Thai Food.

Anyway, I'm curious too know the preferred choice of food after a gig or session. My vote goes for Chinese or Thai with National Coney Island coming in second.:D

What's a "National Coney Island"? Don't have any those out my way in Connecticut.

In Connectciut it probably would be "Diner Food", in my area that would be the only place to get that late at night.

National Coney Island is an institution in Michigan. They serve hot dogs with chili, onions and mustard hence, a Coney Island.

...It's been a while since I played till 2 in the morning, as I'm now working in the church world (and loving it) but...

My favorite after-gig food? An all night breakfast place! Breakfast at 3am is awesome. I used to love the Amphora in Vienna, Virginia.

Mine would be a nice plate of indian . Probably a madras curry and a garlic nan bread . I gained my appreciation for this after some pubs gigs in england . Tastes great after about four pints of bitter .In the real world here I end up with a pack of shacks and and a soda along the interstate at 3:00 a.m. . if I get a lucky maybe a honey bun , wow ! A real "healthy choice" . I probably should order up an angio plasty with that .

Barry, what is a pack of shacks? Is it White Castle?

I still need to try Indian food. Confused as to what I should order. It's like the first time I tried Thai. Many told me that Pad Thai is a goos first start.:p

Sorry, I suppose its a southern thing . Its a pack of crackers . They are usually cheese type sandwich crackers with peanust butter or cheese between them. As far as Indian . You may try Chicken tikka Marsala, Chicken jalfraize , Tandoori chicken . I like Vegetable Byriani as im a vegeterian . Indian food can be very hot and spicy but not all dishes are . Start out with a basic curry with a pillau rice and a nan bread . Im sure you have some Indian restaurants about .

In Chicago at 3 am, it was a bag full of sliders from White Castles. I miss those things.:D :D :D

When I lived in Philly, it was a cheesesteak (from Larry's, Jim's, or Geno's, depending on the location of the venue). Provolone, mayo/ketchup, with. Mmmm.

Now that I'm in Michigan, I've haven't done any gigging yet, other than church stuff, so I've not been out for any after-gig food. Plus, everything here in western MI closes at like 9, so I'm not sure where I'd go anyway. Oh well, I can still dream of cheesesteaks.

Nabs , shacks, same thing . I play lots of gigs so lots of unhealthy a.m. eating . I try to eat sensibly during the week . So on the weekend its unhealthy eating and sleep deprivation ! 30+ years of it but still getting by for now .

Irish Blues, in my business - automotive design at Chrysler - we have diehard designers who often bring in bagfuls of White Castles at 6:30 A.M. No donuts or bagels. Sliders in the A.M. and then sliding to the john in the afternoon.
White Castle is still around the Detroit area. They compete with Rally's/Checkers.

Barry, thank you for the suggestions. Plan on checking out a local Indian place this weekend.:D

No problem, See if you can find out which one of your Indian restaurants have the best rating . Im going for an indian tomorrow night then walking across the street to a local pub down a few pints of Fullers ESB . Very nice ale . If you are confused by the menu just ask questions . let me know what you think .

In Birmingham AL, my current location, they have Krystals, a Southern verison of WC.......they slather the bun with mustard.....which ain't right, IMHO. They still wreck havoc with your gut, so they got that part right.

For me it is always an Arturo Fuente and some water or a decaf for the ride home ....the wife loves the lingering cigar smell the next day  , but a man has his vices (in addition to guitars)

You guys are lucky..Indian food? Philly Cheesesteaks? We travel the east coast on weekends...thank God for Wawa, Sheetz and any waffle house open after 2am. When I lived in Atlanta..Krystal was tops! I bet NYC has the cool gig food!
There is a place in Lynchburg, VA (2hours from Richmond) called the Texas Inn. Musicians from all over the state know and eat there. Little roadhouse diner that seats about 6 people and serves cokes hamburgers and chili. Place is packed at all hours of the night. The specialty of the house is called a "Cheezy Western" which is a hamburger cooked in an egg and served on a bun with mustard, relish and cheese...DElicious!!!, but bring the Tums. Rolling into the "t" room after a gig on the ride home is one of my fondest memories...we just don't play that area enough!

at least you're not imbibing their London Pride, which (after 17 years in London) I have concluded is not something London should be paticularly proud of (IMHO, of course!).

First it's Krystal....
2nd it's Waffle House...
3rd it's IHOP.......

All are open 24/7....

If you can't find those, go home and stick a pizza in the oven.

28 years ago there was a great place in Augusta, GA, called Ye Olds Kettle House. We used to get there around 2:30AM, eat and talk 'til about 4AM. Then we'd go home, sleep an hour and get up and go to work
