This may be old news.....what guitar cables are being used out there in toneville? Pros and cons of the various cables with using different TA's.

George Ls. I've had no need to try other ones, their tone is just that good. However, I recently bought a make-your-own kit and tried to follow the (somewhat confusing) instructions to a T, but apparently did something wrong because they don't work. The pre-made ones, though, are the best cables I've ever used. Cables really do matter to tone...

Hard to say what is the best. The best to one persons ears sonuds like crap to anothers. It depends on your rig and the sound you are going for. Cables have capacitance which rolls off treble. George L's are low capacitance with alot of clarity and brightness to my ears. If you had a bright amp and speaker you might want a cable with higher capacitance that tamed it down some. Dark set up you may want something thats brighter with more clarity. Cable length comes into play also.
I haven't tried the high end cables yet so I can't help there. Some people swear by them some say its bull. I always seem to be saving for an amp or guitar but one day will give them a try. Have wanted to try the Evidence. I like the George L's for pedal connections and Canre GS-6 guitar cables from Bayou cables for now. Lava has a good reputation also. Here's some links.

For a while, I kind of got into the whole cable thing, and the best thing I can say now, is that yes, cables do affect tone. However, spending over $100 dollars on a 10' cable is a bit outrageous, and I definitely won't get caught up in that again. I remember a couple of years ago, tonemerchants were selling 300 dollar "hospital grade" power cords. That was over the top!

Oh yeah, and FWIW, the cable I like the most is the evidence audio HG cable, which is very expensive.

I agree. . I love the Lyric HG for instrument cables. I've been contemplating wiring up my pedal board with either Lyric or Lyric HG by buying bulk cable and ends and soldering them myself. They are too expensive to buy that many premade (for me.)

It definitely comes down to what your ears wanna hear. And I'm in the minority, but I don't always think "more expensive" = "clearer" = "better". I have played brighter guitars that sound better to me when some of the high end is attenuated with a cable with a flat response and I've played guitars that were relatively darker or flatter that saw the benefit of a cable that had more clarity. It's all subjective, but for goodness sakes, don't let the internet gear forums tell you what you should and shouldn't buy.

Guitar Norton's links above will give you all of the info you'l need to start working through the options. (That was a nice gesture, Norton!)

Thanks thats the point I was trying to get across. Expensive isn't always better. Leave it up to your ears.

I have been using a Mogami 25/24 30" cable for a couple of years.
I really like what they sound like. They are very afforable too.
The only thing between my guitar and amp is just a cable.I recommend trying the Mogami's out.

personally, I use the cheapest ones around...typically whatever's lying around. that said, I do have the George L's (vintage red), the Monster Rock, Jazz and Studio, and the Evidence Audio Lyric and siren (spkr) cables.

Do the cheap A$$ whirlwind cables sound better? depends. for high gain, it works. to my ears the Evidence Audio stuff sounds darker, with the Monster Rock cables sounding bright. George L's are great all around as well. YMMV.

I actually own Zaolla cables thanks to your friend's (the guy who used to work at a music store near you) recommendation a couple of years ago. I thought it was pretty good until I started using the HG cables that Takamune has in his store and it was like, "damnit, I got the wrong cables!" I wasn't about to spend a couple of hundred dollar bills on new cables though, so the Zaollas haven't gone anywhere.

Ed Yoon? Alex Khan? John Suhr's marketing guy?!?:D :p

EA Lyric - in the "evidence" bags....killer cables. :D Haven't tried the HG, since I've had the Lyric since 2003.

Yeah, I didn't want to name anybody! ;) That reminds me of another story that I forgot to mention. It's actually pretty funny-you'll definitely find it amusing when I tell you.

I can't bring myself to paying a lot of money for cables when I am very satisfied with the planet waves cables... but I am thinking about trying cobalt ultimate instrument cables... anyone have experience with these?
and after some positive things said about mogami, I may give them another look as well...
I think I got this link from another discussion on the forum a ways back... here it is again for an interesting comparison of cables... http://www.lavacable.com/myweb/CableSummit4.pdf

FYI, attached is a link to Lava Cable's site of a document that reviews several cables. I purchased the Cobalt (Blue) cable given the high performance/price ratio and it performs as reviewed. Great product for the money. Anyway, perhaps this willl shed some light on the subject (or not!).

Update!!!!
I made the switch to the Lava ELC Clear Connect cable! I just rewired my entire pedalboard with this cable and find it to be one of the best cables that I have come across in a long time....
If you get a chance try this one out!
