How low can you tune this scale length before the strings need to be super think to get any tension. Not that think strings are bad, but bass strings are expensive. I've seen on the site one of the first Baritoms was tuned down to A. But can you go to G? Lower?

I'm a big Ty Tabor fan and he goes down to Drop G with a 26 1/4" scale length guitar. So I need a guitar I can down tune and not play strings that feel like wet noodles. So the 28 5/8" scale seems ideal. Down tuned guitars just sound too cool to not play them.

Thanks in advance.

our stock set goes to .068 and can do A nicely. jerry jones has a set that goes to .074 i think. since we use guitar tuners, you have to be careful about going larger cause they don't fit through the tuners.

Thanks Tom

I know most comapnies go to about .074". Then they start jumping around. So I was thinking .074" would be the thickest string I would use. Anything else might be to close to playing a bass for my tastes.

when we first did the baritone, we did those strings tuned to A. it felt and sounded a little too "bass" to me so that's why we went to B with the plain third. it just seems a little more guitar like.

Ty Tabor played almost an entire CD, Please Come Home Mr. Bulbous, in Drop A and it sounded amazing. Down tuned guitars and good 7 strings, those with longer than 25.5" scale length, are truly amazing sounding.
