Anyone have experience with this combination - any thoughts about tone, action, etc. would be helpful. Thanks.

With tone and oneness, Mike

They stay in tune wonderfuly... Not much of a tonal difference between Bigsby and non-Bigsby. The string feel might be a little looser with a Bigs, but some may not notice it.

You will notice a difference in hollow vs. not hollow though. Hollow is less percusive and a slighlty compressed attack... smoother, yeah that's it!

You must be sitting too near to Roy(maybe) these days ;)

I'm eyeing a hollow Atom with a Bigsby.

interesting-I would think a bigsby trem would have a very strong effect on tone compared to the wraparound bridge. I've played a Gibson flying V (Lonnie Mack) with a bigsby and it sounded brighter and more cutting than other Gibson V's that I've played.

With ours, it's the other way around... a little more open, not quite as tight feeling and a little airy-er with the Bigsby. Not a great difference though.

I really am starting to sound like that (maybe) guy.. Jeezz... Am I the only guy NOT on vacation during vacation week??

ok, i'm checking in even though my wife is giving me dirty looks.
bruce has described the sound difference well. it's not severe at all. the major difference is the feek of having that big hunk of stuff on the guitar. it does crowd the electronics area and changes the feel of the space behind the bridge. both of these things are a negative for me, but i love the effect of the tailpiece so much i live with them.
for a while i was taking one of each to the gig, but found i was always playing the bigsby equipped one. i would think if you were a flailing rocker the bigsby would be less appealing feel wise :o

Every vintage Les Paul in the BOTB book that has a Bigsby is worthless to me! I hate those things--makes the Atom look like a supermodel with braces!

All IMHO, of course!

braces w/ head gear, a neckbrace, on a couple of crutches.

Apples to apples, if I was paying $3k and got to choose from a bevy of supermodels, the one with the Bigsby smile wouldn't be my first pick!

i guess you all missed my point. even with all the drawbacks, looks wasn't one of them for me, i still end up playing that one cause it does things i can't do without the trem.

Ouch!! I love Bigsby's, for the tone, the function and yes, even they way they look!!! Wrap arounds on these types of guitars, to me, make the butt look too big!!! IMHO of course!!

Tom or Roy, if one were to order a Hollow Atom in 6120 orange, would I have to pay for "personalized selection" to get a PLAIN top? I know, I know, blasphemous. What would be really cool would be to have a big giant "A" branded into the top and some thumbnail inlays on the fingerboard...

plain top is -$100. no brand here... but maybe laser etched?

That would be kinda cool!! Maybe we could come up with a scheme of block inlays with images on them that says something about the company, ala the "steers", "guns" and "barbed wire" from the cowboy guitars on Gretsches.

If you order an orange guitar, with a Bigsby, plain top, with a big "A" lasered onto it...better plan on keeping it forever!! I imagine it would be a little hard to re-sell! :)

That would be fun (for Gretsch fan that wont settle for anything less than Anderson quality and playability)

Gotta love the engraved longhorn and leather :)
