View Full Version : If I get Cobra switching on a Drop Top, minus the tone knob....

with two humbuckers, can I still get hum/single/both/single/hum using the 5-way? I hate tone knobs, and when I send in my custom order, there will be no extra holes drilled in the beautiful Atlantic Storm (maybe) top!

There is nothing on the Anderson website explaining the various non-switcheroo setups.

Thanks!

I'm new, and will be full of questions until I get my order in!

we can do that. we would add a tone loading circuit to compensate for what th tone control does even when it's off. you would loose the both split function of the pushpull tone unless you make the volume a pushpull, which i wold not recommend because the volume pulled up will probably be in your way.

Cool!

Would you be able to do a LP like 3-way toggle, and a splitter switch--with no tone knob? That way, I could get the standard humbucking sounds, AND convert to single coil with the flip of a micro switch!?

Thanks Tom!

we have a 3 way switch, you can see it on most of the 2 p90 guitars. it looks like the lp switch but does not feel exactly the same. we could put a mini switch in the tone position.

Ah, so it would look like the Cobra Special you have in the gallery? Volume knob where they all are, 3-way toggle below, and a micro switch where the tone knob would normally be?

This has great potential written all over it (for me, anyway)!

the 3 way would be where you see it on the specials(same position as the middle of the 5 way).

And the coil tap would be a mini switch, in a small hole where the tone knob would be? So, there would only be 3 holes in the guitar, and I would have 6 tone possibilities with 2 humbuckers? :D

yup. yup. yup.

Sweet, sweet, and sweet!! I just have to make up my mind on color (Trans Blue, Bora Bora, or maybe Atlantic Storm), then I'll put in my order!!

When you say the 3-way togle isn't like a LP's, is it harder to use, lighter, smaller, etc?

Also, thanks Tom for taking time out of your schedule to give me wiring info!

the handle is about the same size. the internal switch is like a mini switch so it has a stiffer feel than the gibson switchcraft switch. more of a click than a flop.

Is it more delicate than the floppy switch? I'd hate to break it with a careless flick of my pinky.

Can I put a floppy switch in there--or, can I send you guys a floppy one to install when my order is put in??

Huh-huh, I said floppy one!

it's a very durable switch. we have not had one fail.

I know I'm being insane, but is it a soft click, or one that requires two fingers to move it?

insane
forget two fingers, and try a come-along-chain

just curious: could you use a push/pull volume to split the coils? one knob and one switch would be pretty sweet.

What does this mean?

What does this mean?

a come-along chain is something used to hoist or move heavy objects, usually used in the construction business. they can have load-bearing capacities of several tons.

suriel was being facetious.

Ah. I have a few guitars I'd love to hoist with one of those! Selling them to finance the Drop Top!
