Little known tone secret

At the Steely Dan show in Irvine this past Wednesday Chasyboy and I discovered a little know tone secret being utilized by Walter Becker.

Note the mic placement on the Top Hat Head at the bottom of the rack (which I believe is a back-up and not even on) He also had about a 3 foot long inflatable mic on his Bogner 4X12 cab.

For years, I've thought of mic'ing the knobs on my amps, but the sound guys never had enough channels. Nice to see that it's getting some noteriety.

If you do ever end up with a enough available channels, it seems from the picture, you need to go way off-axis in order for it to be effective.
