Anyone tried the Mesa Lone Star?

we had one in our namm booth, but the 85db sound limit at the show, which is about conversational level, made it tough to listen. since it's a 100watt amp, we had the volume so far down that i couldn't tell what i was hearing. i have talked to a few people that have gotten to open it up and they really liked it.

So essentially it's a higher volume amp? I was hoping this would be a boogie that's usable at lower volumes. I share your quest, Tom, for a single small amp that sounds great at all volumes.

Actually I have a lot of experience with this amp. The nice thing is the switchable power levels for each channel.

I actually use the lower power on the clean channel to make it sound a bit warmer. I know this is contrary to what most people do.

Like most tube amps it does have a lowest volume threshold - you know that point around 2 when the volume just dies. And it does sound better at mid volumes than low. But it can sound good at low volumes.

I might suggest a lower power DrZ or a Mesa F30? I have been able to get some real good tones at low volume from my F30. However the Dr Z is a bit creamier.

I recently got a F-30 small head. I love this amp because I get all the tones I need without disturbing the family. Mesa really delivered with this amp. The lead channels are full and in my opinion, much nicer than the Dual Recto tones.

I agree. I love my F 30. I actually like the clean sound better than my Fender Twin.

But I do suggest you try the DrZ line. Only drawback is they do not make a channel switching amp.

Actually, the 6545 is a channel switcher, or more exactly, an amp switcher since it contains two amps in one-the KT45 and SRZ65. It's a nice amp-the 45 side is killer, but the 65 side isn't that great imo.

I recently aquired a Vox AC-30 HW. It's one impressive guitar amplifier that sounds terrific at any volume. You should hear the way my Cobra sings through that baby!
