I just picked up a new Cobra this week and on the Spec sheet it states Personalized Quilt Top. Anyone seen this before?

Anthony,

This is basically an option ($400-500) which allows the customer to specify characteristics of their maple top. Forinstance I could specify "bubbly" quilt as oppossed to tunbular quilt.

It's when you want to get that killer top on the guitar! You can request and $pay$ for the best choice woods!
So you must have a killer Top!!!!:D

im thinking of getting a hollow cobra with a different wood top

i got koa and walnut - dont want maple

got any other suggestions?

also have u ever made one not using mahogany body and neck -

i kinda fancy what in effect would be a short scale tele with minihums?

what do u reckon?

when we were prototyping cobras, we tried different combo's. the mahogany just did the right thing. i have made a few cobra's since with other materials and they start to get real close to our longer scale offerings. not wanting to muddy the waters we have chosen not to offer the other woods.

Mmmm...short-scale Tele sounds like a drool-worthy idea. Is there any sonic reason this couldn't work?

since sound is subjective, there isn't much that wouldn't work for somebody, within reason. i'll come back to the "not wanting to muddy the waters" statement. we have so many options now that if we said you could get any model in any wood it would be increase the already dreaded option anxiety.
