So I recently had the pleasure of acquiring this ProAM. And she's not just ANY ProAm...but one of about 20 (21 Tom? :D ) in Red Bowling Ball (Green's the rarest, I believe). But that's the not the best part....

I took 'er into see the best guitar doctors in all of LA. But before Daddy tom picked her up (for the first time in 19 years), Axe (Jedi) Master Bruce gave 'er the once over inspection and confirmed that she's ALL original  . Electronics (Ultrasonic p/ups, no VV), OFR bridge (and hand sanded brass block), TITE electronics done up in vintage Anderson style, vintage tinted micarta fret markers, and original Pat Wilkins BB finish.

Even Tino confirmed that he probably buffed 'er out back in 1987. Chuck was all smiles admiring what killer condition the paint was in after almost 20 years. Virtually no dings (those that are there are very HTF), pristine neck plate, and no buckle rash.

Am I stoked? http://www.anubz.com/smilies/rocker.gif
Definitely - this one's for the Anderson history books. And while she maybe clean, she's been played and is well broken in, as evidenced by the patina'd birdseye maple neck. Acoustically loud and as even timbered as any basswood/pau ferro/maple combo can be.

Here, you be the judge!!:D

That is cool! My kind of Anderson. I have never seen a green bowling ball??? Wonder if they could recreate some of these vintage BB finishes?

The GC here in Dallas on LBJ had a white and black for sell last week. You are killing me.

they can still be done. we've done several in the last few years. we send the color part of the finish to pat wilkins, who did the original ones.

On a complete tangent, I'm contemplating getting a Cobra Special down the line with a custom paint job with one of our beasties from our games on it. . maybe a headcrab?

I'll get the artist that designs the creepy beaties to draw what he thinks a Cobra special paint job should look like. Hopefully it's not too scary. . . his sketches are usually more scary than what we end up with in the end. :)

:D

so you're away from the board for a year (give or take a few months), and you return to give me grief?! :p

not my fault you're uncomfortable w/ any color other than black or blue  then again, you're the guy who'd take Ian Gillan over Rob Halford! ;)

oh, Chow sent me pix of his new THORN #108 (http://p092.ezboard.com/fthornnewsanddiscussionpagefrm10.showMessageRange? topicID=230.topic&start=1&stop=20) . Stunning (hopefully she plays as well as she looks!)

Major necro bump but what's a bowling ball finish run retail price wise?

Metlupass2
05-12-2014, 10:46 PM
Depends on condition and color. You don't see any for sale anymore. I had to spend some time tracking mine down last year.

BFC

I mean the up charge to order a new guitar with it. They were reintroduced a few years ago, new neck joint and all.

we have done a few of them in the last couple years. the finish is $675 US retail added on top. normal dealers discount would apply to that.

That with the headstock matching, Tom? Thanks.

tom
05-13-2014, 05:01 PM
yes it is.

tom

to clarify, there is still the matching headstock charge, but the custom color charge includes doing the headstock.
